I feel a little silly making a forum, but I'm feeling anal tonight so let's just bring it up - when we're talking about render images for weapons, how do we want them? Angled top-left to bottom-right or top-right to bottom-left, and pointed up or pointed down? Because aside from being on an angle they vary a lot.
EDIT - I'll also note my vote personally, I'd prefer them pointing up but am unsure which way they should point, left or right.
Well, if there's precedence for an "official" alignment, we should go with that. Any other games display weapons in some sort of museum or guide, etc?

Well so much for official formatting ;p.

I do think we need to fix the FF9 renders if we can, they're all straight up and down.
Aye, I recall JBed said he had some sort of difficulty that made it hard to get them on a diagonal, and my burner that netted me FF12 and FFX doesn't like FF9's discs, so little we can do for that other than bug JBed to find a way.

If all else fails we can always rotate the render in photoshop?
I'd prefer not. Unless you're rotating mod90 degrees then we're going to get pixel blur.
@Drake: You don't need to burn anything for IX. There is a file on the disks that can be exported from. 88.107.150.115 14:47, October 21, 2013 (UTC)
- I like how Spira uploaded his, nicely organised. I'm also a little concerned about blurring; I wouldn't like to sacrifice quality for alignment.
- We do need some sort of standardised something for this. I like Brotherhood's manner of pointing, but then that's artwork, and we have stuff like Buster Sword pointing the opposite way. Do we have any grounds to consider some sort of distinction between artwork and renders? Tia-Lewise 19:07, October 23, 2013 (UTC)
- Well, regarding the uploading of all official materials including render and artwork, I'm of the opinion that we orient them as they officially appear. With fan-extracted renders though, I think we can do them however we wish. The purpose of an image is to illustrate the content, as long as that goal is achieved then the orientation is a minor detail. Drake Clawfang (talk) 19:25, October 23, 2013 (UTC)

Orient from bottom-left to top-right[]
- I actually prefer this format. Seems kinda natural to me.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 22:03, October 30, 2013 (UTC)
- for stuff we render ourselves, i'd definitely go with this. firstly because i picked this direction to begin with, and also because it makes sense to me from a psychoanalytic point of view. ie. majority of people are right handed + unless you read hebrew, your mind is trained to look at things from left to right. (top to bottom as well, but not as much). as such people are more predisposed to working with things that point to the right or go from left to right. in any case this should remain a 3d render discussion, if its 2d sprites that only face 1 way i see no reason to flip them.--Arciele Spira (talk) 02:46, October 31, 2013 (UTC)
Orient from bottom-right to top-left[]
- Voting this way based on the sprite-based games - the weapon images for the sprite games are oriented this way due to the way the attack animations worked, the character holding the weapon out to the left. It makes sense for our renders of weapons from 3D games to follow the same patterns, and we shouldn't flip the sprites. Drake Clawfang (talk) 18:34, October 30, 2013 (UTC)
- I was going to go for the other one as they're a little more pleasing to the eye for me, but you've got a very valid point here. Second that. Tia-Lewise 19:50, October 30, 2013 (UTC)
- As long as we are consistent. ScatheMote 22:03, October 30, 2013 (UTC)
- This feels more pleasing to the eye to me and it feels better given where we usually put images of weapons in articles.HarpieSiren (talk) 04:21, November 1, 2013 (UTC)
Don't Care Either Way[]
- Seriously? --BlueHighwindツ 22:04, October 30, 2013 (UTC)
- I honestly don't care myself. As long as we have the images, they're of good quality, and they show the image in question the best of its ability, that's all that matters to me. Xenomic (talk) 22:06, October 30, 2013 (UTC)
- Since render images are basically object files, I don't think there is any kind of officiality regarding the direction the weapons might point. Fëasindë Peth 02:12, October 31, 2013 (UTC)

- This seems largely pointless. If someone gives us good renders, we're not gonna nitpick which way it's pointing. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 03:46, November 1, 2013 (UTC)

Want to resolve this so hopefully a vote will settle this simply. Drake Clawfang (talk) 18:33, October 30, 2013 (UTC)
- at the end of the day, i have to second SCMs point. this may be a pointless exercise, as its not like the quality of renders is any better or worse either way. perhaps standardising them within each title would make more sense.--Arciele Spira (talk) 07:22, November 1, 2013 (UTC)
- To clarify, I am definitely not saying that any renders that don't point the right way must be replaced. I just think it'd be helpful for users who are uploading weapon images to know which way others would want them to point. Drake Clawfang (talk) 13:05, November 1, 2013 (UTC)
