"Never trust a man until you've run a mile in his shoes. Then you're a mile away from him and you've stolen his shoes."
We've been mirrored or something.

I know CC-by-SA says that mainspace stuff can be copied at will as long as the copier isn't profiting and they give us credit, however they also copied personal stuff. I'm not angry or anything, rather I'm kind of amused that they copied a bunch of out-of-date content (the DNC banner :P) and called it a wiki. Just thought y'all should know.

EDIT: I had to use Tinyurl to get around the spam filter. According to Wikia 337games is a site that's spammed to often. Wut?

Plagiarism. That is all. 79.69.196.99 23:08, June 16, 2012 (UTC)

Ah, whatever.(Cat + meow)(RC + Sbox) = FFW 23:10, June 16, 2012 (UTC)

Hah, what a joke. Could ask Wikia to contact 337games, but looks like it's a Chinese site or at least the instance owning it is called "Beijing ZhiMingXingTong Technology Co., Ltd".Keltainentoukokuu 23:28, June 16, 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, it's plagiarism, but we can't do much, as it's completely legal. We trounce them on any metric of web popularity ranking anyway, right?

Also, they'd be allowed to make money of it if they wanted it, the clause that blocks that is NC; CC BY-SA just means they have to credit us and release it under the same license. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 23:44, June 16, 2012 (UTC)

Ugh. Ltfabretti just said they copied userpages too, so I went back to check that out. And as it turns out, navigation = fail. Yup, that place is awwwwwful.(Cat + meow)(RC + Sbox) = FFW 01:03, June 17, 2012 (UTC)

Speaking of BH - just send him in there and have him post some non-PC jokes and stuff. Maybe he'll be up for that. And maybe they can read some English. And maybe it'll tick them off enough that they get rid of it. That could work. Maybe. --Shockstorm 01:17, June 17, 2012 (UTC)

Eh, worth a shot :P -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 01:29, June 17, 2012 (UTC)

No one edits it. Anyone know how to program a bot for mass page blanking? JBed 01:42, June 17, 2012 (UTC)

Well, sort of, but AWB needs confirmation from the admins of most wikis before it can be run (strangely not here though). And I don't think they'd take kindly to vandalizing, though it's a funny suggestion. What's funny is it says they're powered by "Wibiya". It's Wikia. That place gets lamer and lamer every time I see them. (Cat + meow)(RC + Sbox) = FFW 04:06, June 17, 2012 (UTC)
"Anyone know how to program a bot for mass page blanking?"
I was going to do exactly that, but apparently too many people have been blanking pages and editing is now disabled. (I assume it's disabled for everyone, the account I created months ago can't edit and a newly created account can't edit either. I've been putting it off for months, I wish I had acted sooner. :(
"it's completely legal." Like hell it is. As you said, Wikia content is licensed under CC-BY-SA. The "BY" part in that means that if you copy the content, you must attribute the authors of the content. The "SA" part means that any copy must also be licensed under the same license. It's legal for me to the content of this wiki, only if I credit the authors and license it for others to use. Since 337 has NOT attributed the authors, and have stuck a restrictive license on it, their plagiarism is actually copyright infringement.
Since I can't blank it myself, I've contacted wikia support and asked what they can do about it. -452 18:57, February 23, 2013 (UTC)
Here's the answer to that question: http://community.wikia.com/wiki/Admin_Forum:Someone_has_just_lifted_the_entire_wiki_that_I_administrate,_what_do_I_do%3F
"Because Wikia is just the host of your copyrighted content (per the terms of the CC-BY-SA license), we cannot send takedown notices on your behalf." - In other words, Wikia will do nothing about copyright infringement, it's up to the individual editors - which really sucks. -452 19:04, February 23, 2013 (UTC)
Gee, that was a great rant against me saying it's legal. OH WAIT - on the very next line I said what the legal requirements were. The help's appreciated, but, really now, read more. -- Some Color Mage ~ (Talk) 02:01, February 26, 2013 (UTC)
I did read it. What you said on the next line is true, but it doesn't make the statement preceding it any less false.
The statement "it's completely legal." is false.
On the next line, you said "Also, they'd be allowed to make money of it if they wanted it, the clause that blocks that is NC; CC BY-SA just means they have to credit us and release it under the same license." - which is correct, they would be allowed to make money off it, if they complied with the license: but they have not credited anyone, and have not released it under the same license, therefore their usage is not legal. The statement "it's completely legal." is still false. -452 04:27, February 26, 2013 (UTC)
I heard back from Wikia staff, they said the same thing as before: Because Wikia only hosts the content, and the work is copyrighted to each user, only page contributors can send takedown notices. I think I'll spider the site and give a list of URLs to all large wikis who have had their content copied. I've already done it for wikis I use. -452 04:27, February 26, 2013 (UTC)
I know I'm the person who started this thread, and I know I'm not an expert on copyright law, but I don't see why we must file a takedown. Unless we're legally required to do so, there's no point, since the whole website is a mess and anybody with any sense will use this FFWiki. We ignored WikiBooks (not the Wikibooks on Wikimedia, this WikiBooks is just an idiot trying to make a few bucks conning people) when they/he stole our White Magic pages; this isn't any different. (Cat + meow)(RC + Sbox) = FFW 04:33, February 26, 2013 (UTC)
I never used the word must, but that's true. It's the same with anything in life: if someone steals your car, you don't have to do anything about it if you don't want to.
Wikia staff have linked me to a takedown template and the whole process seems straightforward, so there doesn't seem any point to not do it.
I'm not going to try to convince you to file a takedown notice, but here's why I'm going to: I found out about that site because it appeared in google results while I was trying to find the source of some false information. Someone added it to a wiki I use, and 337 copied the info before it was removed. False information can be removed from Wikia, but not from that site, which will continue to appear in search results. Since 337 is also using the logo of each wiki, a casual visitor to both sites may not realise that it is not the wiki it claims to be, and think that what they read there can be trusted. -452 04:56, February 26, 2013 (UTC)
Very true. If the process is straightforward, then I guess there really isn't a reason not to do it. (Cat + meow)(RC + Sbox) = FFW 05:02, February 28, 2013 (UTC)
