This is not a rant about how tired I am of deleting the images newbie users Our media policy regarding images, which can be found here, and my dearest San-San's guide, which can be found here, are very detailed pages that cover most of the issues that may arise from uploading images. However, there are a few loose ends to There are files that, while aptly named and licensed as fanart, have nothing to do with Final Fantasy. Things like this: There are files that, while aptly named (?), licensed as fanart and connected to the series, are clearly nothing but collages, montages or screenshots that hardly qualify as transformative or illustrative use of official material, Things like this:

For the collages and such I say we just frag the things, there are better sources out there which can be used for the same purpose and to greater effect. Exdeath64 05:25, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

I think it's best to be subjective about this. Unrelated copyrighted images must go, of course, but some images are used for walkthroughs, some are meant to mimic Final Fantasy (see Arma's Spore images, Nelo's TC artwork). I don't think a set limit should be placed. User Images should be deleted if they are not licensed and categorized properly, are unused, or are present in ridiculous, ridiculous volume. Which is, of course, subjective. Something like 50 pictures of your cows eating apples or dozens of stick figures is too much.

- I think

Well, since so many people seem to actually care for this, and taking into account the conversation held between 8bit, Yuan and I on the IRC channel, we've decided to:

Well, if you are going to try and cut down on meaningless user images uploaded, I believe our guides should be more clear on how we link from external image sites and have it shown as an image and not a link. I have found these confusing as heck and is why I have uploaded some pointless images.

You mean this section? We'll add information to the main image help section and copyright page.
A note: if you upload a picture that is yours, and is not a piece of fanart, don't use the fanart templates. Use Template:Copyright instead and fill it out appropriately.

I don't think we should keep unrelated images. People can upload to photobucket or link to another wiki, and I think it's possible to link to deviantArt (not sure about that). The largest problem here though, is getting the info across to users that they can't upload unrelated images, and telling them to categorize and license images. People don't read the welcome template, people don't read the upload text, and there's that add image button that doesn't allow for categorizing and licensing. A site notice might work, or a more in your face welcome message (which may be annoying and put off some user; you can never win, eh?)

It's not possible to link externally to deviantART. Since we're talking about fanart and unrelated self-created images here, using other wikis for the purpose of using the image here is not an option.
The problem with Photobucket and other external image sites is the difficulty in resizing, if an image is to be used multiple times (eg, NeloAngelo's fanfic artworks, which are also used on user pages and talk templates). The frequent use of talk templates means that it's actually a greater server load to access an image held on another site, than to use one here, thus the exception for talk template images. If we have such a problem with getting people not to upload unrelated images, then completely banning it is unlikely to help much... I'll see if I can get rid of that "add image" button. Wikia says we can't have a feature which stops people from uploading unless a category and licence are added :/. Uploading has been changed to auto-confirmed, which shall hopefully cut things down a bit.

Reminds me of the Dissidia character art and FF12 character renders. They're huge, thousands of pixels wide and wall. The Ashe image is approximately 2600x7300. Do we really need images that large? What practical purpose does it serve? My browser has frozen loading the full-sized versions, they're so big.

Sorry I think I have uploaded some super-hi-res images before. It's because I know some people use the FFWiki as a media library and people want to find super hi-res images to download onto their computer. Torrent sites exist for that but hi-res versions of certain images are hard to come by. It's not really the wiki's primary function to work as a media library as well, though, so. First thing should be removing that 10MB thing because it's misleading and sounds like everything up to that file-size is a-OK.Keltainentoukokuu 01:00, August 5, 2010 (UTC)Keltainentoukokuu
