I've just realised from looking at the info on the FFWiki Facebook page that we're describing the Wiki, not the Facebook page. Ideally we should be writing that the page covers news updates, FA, FI, maybe the odd poll and such, rather than "anyone can edit" blah blah blah, that's midleading as anyone can edit the Wiki, not the Facebook.

Also, I'd like to put our names on there as admins, alphabetised so there's no row over who might look more important where their name is placed, and make it clear that that only extends as far as the page is concerned and not where the Wiki itself is concerned (though we could also add that Cat is a moderator here and is good to come to for help when he's around).

What do you reckon, peeps? Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 11:53, May 29, 2013 (UTC)

Yes, we should point out what Wiki does, and what its Facebook does. Also, I'm fine with putting our names there, as long as I won't need to put link to my private Facebook account or something like that.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 12:18, May 29, 2013 (UTC)
Oh no no, I wouldn't be linking to your personal Facebook, I meant using our FFWiki usernames. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 12:21, May 29, 2013 (UTC)
Good. Then you have my blessing. :P —Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) 12:32, May 29, 2013 (UTC)
I'm of the opinion that this is a wiki-matter, not just a Facebook-matter. Ergo, the value of a non-FB-mod's opinion is equal to a FB-mod's opinion.
Also I don't really see a need to list users. If people want to contact Facebook mods then they can do so by posting on the Facebook page. And if people want to contact people about FFWiki, well, they can either do the same or you can direct them to the list of staff, or the staff noticeboard, or just answer them if one of you has the answer. There's no benefit. I wouldn't argue against writing your names on Project:Social media (we don't have that?), because it is good to know who moderates the Facebook page for the wiki. It is not useful for Facebook users to know, since as far as they are concerned, the entire wiki moderates it. 92.28.178.66 14:00, May 29, 2013 (UTC)
The whole wiki does not moderate it and I don't want users to think of it like that, not all our users here want to be bothered by stuff to do with Facebook. I think people would appreciate knowing who updates it; we already sign our Facebook updates with our usernames but if we have it listed on there too people will know who to contact on the Wiki, if for some reason they decide to do it like that. There's always one. We should cater for everybody. I marked this as for the Facebook admins because I didn't bank on anyone else needing to say their bit, though I suppose I always have to rule out you on that one. :P Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 14:30, May 29, 2013 (UTC)
Why do you need to sign your names? See how we run our Twitter and compare.
Also, no, the whole wiki does not moderate it. But you know how famous people/bands don't do their social media stuff? They hire people, and those people don't get their names anywhere. As far as most people are concerned, it is the band who are writing the updates.
Well it's like that, except that you are internal (like, for example, one member of the band handling updates). You are doing it on behalf of the entire wiki.
If someone wants to contact us on the wiki, then link to Project:Social media (why don't you exist?). But if someone wants to contact the relevant people, then restricting their options means they are more likely to use the existing methods-- posting on the Facebook wall or sending a private message (do page's have that?). Using this whole "catering" argument...: someone might want to email you rather than post a message on Facebook on Wikia. But they can't, because you haven't given your email address. Therefore you should give them your email address, right? No, the person should learn to use the more obvious and better channels available.
The impression I think we should be giving is that the wiki Facebook page belongs to the wiki. An abstract entity that still posts messages and replies to you. And that means removing names from the Facebook page, and keeping them for the project page and on-wiki (which is behind the social-media mask). JBed (talk) 14:47, May 29, 2013 (UTC)
I still want to change the misleading info. You can't come up with an argument against that. And uh...I moderate Twitter as well, didn't you know? Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 15:02, May 29, 2013 (UTC)
(I'm responding to your points in reverse order) Firstly: Yeah, I know. Secondly: Nope, I have no qualms with clarification. Thirdly: I'm just offering my opinion. Find a majority who think your names should be on there then go for it. JBed (talk) 15:11, May 29, 2013 (UTC)

Okay, so this is a lot of stuff to respond to, so I'm going to break it off into bullet points:

  • You might want to remove my name as a mod for the time being, since I haven't really been on the wiki (and avoiding Facebook, trying to throw off a Facebook-stalker >_> though I think she's gotten bored with me, thank god). I'm trying to change that, but until I actually start updating the page again, shouldn't put my name down.
  • Putting our names down isn't necessary on the page itself, between PMs, emails, and this forum, they have more than enough ways of contacting us. But we could always briefly put our names down on Project:Social media.
  • That project page should exist; we have Project:Social media, Project:Social media, and Project:IRC for a reason. I'll probably make it later today if nobody else does. C A T U S E 17:26, May 29, 2013 (UTC)
  • Wait, we're signing Official Wiki Updates? I thought we were only signing responses to PMs or comments, so it's easier to follow a conversation when multiple FFWikiers respond (unlike Twitter, where it's pretty much a given that anyone who isn't Jeppo who responds is using their private Twitter, or YouTube, where responses are usually Serious Wiki Business written out by Drake or Scathe but agreed on by FFWiki IRC people first). Okay, no names. But on signing, I only sign with my name when I'm not posting something directly related to the Wiki- see today's post on us reaching 1100 likes. I am going to change the misleading info now though. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 18:19, May 29, 2013 (UTC)
