It was recently raised that our "Elemental affinities" could be confusing.

"normally 0% is of course normal damage, then the higher the % the higher the resistance from it, but then I've always known any resist percentage in the minus is suffering greater damage than normal."

And I get where that's coming from. So perhaps we should change the word "affinities" to better imply the percentages are multipliers of the inflicted damage.

Or maybe just changing the display from "50%" to "×0.5" would avoid the confusion since the "x" implies that the damage is multiplied?

Thoughts? Or anyone else ever have the same thought? I don't want to dismiss this as "just one person" when we can make a solution that confuses none of the peoples. JBed (talk) 02:00, April 18, 2016 (UTC)

I won't lie to you, I don't get the numbers in the elemental section. I prefer the immune, weak or absorb like it use to be. Fenrir9 (talk) 02:03, April 18, 2016 (UTC)
The problem with that is what even is "weak"? You can't tell from the word alone. It's different in each game. It also doesn't work for games that more complex, like VIII which allows any value for its multiplier [Edit: so even if we do want to use "Weak" et al, we'll still need a solution to the original problem]. Time to created a FF# damage algorithm pages. Might want to rethink/retool the list of elements articles. Either remove or leave the tables of elemental abilities/weapon/armor/etc. If the tables are removed or they stay there, the damage algorithm should be on those pages. The first in there element headers. But I think that would bloat the list of elements article. Fenrir9 (talk) 02:37, April 18, 2016 (UTC)
