So I've already uploaded a fair number of ability images from some vids that FFxStrife let me get, and he also gave me a link to what he managed to translate for the game mechanics (link on the DFFAC main talk page). In addition to that, he also gave me the Japanese wiki, also listed on the talk page for the game. Now, how are we going to handle the data and pages for this game? That is the question to be asked here. Is it going to go on the other Dissidia pages? Are they going to get their own, new pages?
Bringing this back up again since nobody responded to it...

If Dissidia 3 is massively different from the other games, like in terms of gameplay and mechanics, maybe they should get their own pages. But that would be like, as different as Super Smash Bros is from Dissidia 012. But generally the game mechanics look about the same to me, so I would say keep them all under the Dissidia pages. If we end up with in the future twelve or so Dissidia games, it could be a problem, but for now I'd say it can all fit in those places. We didn't split 012, we don't need to split this.
I agree with Blue. I hate making excess articles, the fewer pages that users have to click through to find information they want, the better. Not sure if we should go with the tab approach that is used on pages at the moment, though, I always disliked that.
I think it should just have its own section under each character for the arcade version and not be tabbed at all. While it's similar to the others, it's not the exact same I feel.
As the arcade release stands now, there are no levels and no story mode, but movesets are different, and core gameplay with Bravery and HP attacks is the same.
For now I think the Dissidia pages can stay together. If in the future, the arcade release begins to differ more substantially, we can talk about a split then.
Did a test on Terra's Dissidia page, so please check it out and give feedback on it, and/or fix things up. As a note, I'm taking major guesswork on what abilities do and the like, so will need someone to doublecheck on them from the JPN wiki (listed on the DFF2015's talk page).
It looks good IMO, just a personal preference: "Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 12 Final Fantasy", not "Dissidia Final Fantasy/Dissidia 12 Final Fantasy" the latter one isn't encyclopedic IMO and we are encyclopedic to a fault, I suppose.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 00:37, February 18, 2016 (UTC)
Righto. I'm sure there's other pages that do that, hence why I did it that way (though those were probably done by me too...). I updated Terra's page a bit more with more abilities. From the looks of things, there's no need to really split off the Bravery/HP/EX Skill abilities, so they're all gonna be on one table. I know the JPN wiki uses GIFs, but it has the site's name in them so those won't be viable here I think. So still images is what we get.
Considering that people upload videos on YouTube I could make GIFs for moves, but two things: 1. permission for using their videos for making GIFs and 2. loading time since GIFs will be, well, animated and stuff. If we want to have animated GIFs for abilities we'll need to decide on dimensions too IMO. 640×360px for 16:9 resolutions will be probably fine. If GIFs weould be used then a subpage for them would probably be a good idea, but then videos themselves wouldn't be a better option. But... why do you bring GIFs into the discussion? We use them only for animating 2D sprites IIRC.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 01:00, February 18, 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, all of the images that I have are from a video anyways (no HP attacks for the most part sadly except for Ramza), and even then I didn't get all images for him...). I brought it up in case it's something we'd like to do, either for this game or in the future for anything else, such as the other Dissidia games or whatever. *shrugs*
Well, Wiki-wide GIFs for abilities is a topic for a new thread in the forums, but it's something I'd like to see, especially since some abilities in 3D games are quite elaborate in their execution.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 01:09, February 18, 2016 (UTC)
Righto, can bring that up if you want. As for the topic at hand, I just realized that the JPN wiki has Frame Data for moves (just not for everything). Should this be included on the templates? I'm working on Warrior of Light right now, so I'd need someone to go back and add the column to Terra's page if it's added...
I'm about to wrap up the new tables, going to Y'shtola and then finally Ramza, and going to update those. Now the thing I want to ask is: Do you guys want the tables as they are? Or do you want to split them up into Bravery/HP Attack sections like the other Dissidia games? This leaves the EX Skill/Other sections in their own weird little area but...leaving it up to you guys. If you think they should be, go ahead and split them accordingly.
| |||
Terra table looks fine to me, though I'd rather have it merged into the tabbed tables with the pre-existing one.
| |||
Use "File:Dissidia Final Fantasy Y'shtola.png", "File:Dissidia Final Fantasy blizzard Y'shtola.png", and "File:Ramza in battle.jpg" (but do rename that last one to include at least the game name), they're the best exampled IMO. "File:Dissidia Arcade Terra VS Y'shtola.png" is probably either Meltdown or Meteor but I can't say for sure.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 21:17, February 18, 2016 (UTC)
Done and done. Renamed them to the other names and deleted mine. Now the only one to figure out is that Terra one which I cannot tell if it's either of those. If it's Meltdown, then it's probably when it hits, but I don't think it looks like THAT honestly. Hmm... Also, I don't know if those tables should be merged with the tabbed tables at all. The tabbed tables work fine for the other 2 since they're very similar and use the same things, but the Arcade one uses different things (also, originally Y'shtola and Ramza had levels for their pages. Where were the levels coming from?? I didn't see any on the JPN wiki I was using. o_O).
So, bringing this up here since might as well, but do we want to have an "Other Appearances" section for spells that may appear in the Dissidia series, such as Terra's Meteor/Ultima/Meltdown/etc. for FFVI, and Cloud's Fire/Fira/Firaga for FFVII? I don't think we have those on those pages per say but...yeah...
