With the recent all-but-confirmation of a sequel to Dissidia, I feel that this is the optimal time to create this page. In essence, it's just like all of those other Dissidia 2 topics. I just felt like putting it here.

So, here's how it works. Create a heading under your own name, and post who you think will be included in Dissidia 2. Preferably, give reasons for your inclusions. "Good" character selections would have three important criteria:

  • Popularity with the fanbase, including Japan, NA and Europe.
  • Important in the game (or games) they appear in.
  • Potential for a unique moveset that differentiates them from the rest of the cast.

Of course, those can be discarded at will, and you should make no attempt to hide your bias - this is, after all, a series where character bias plays a huge role in the community.

For the record, here are all the rumors I've heard regarding character inclusion in Dissidia. Note that these are all unconfirmed, and should only be used as a benchmark rather than a sure thing:

WarxePBEdit

So to start it off, here's my ideal roster for Dissidia 2, excluding the characters already present in Dissidia:

  • Final Fantasy: Cosmos and Chaos. Yeah, I know choosing Cosmos is "cheating", but she already has a model, and Chaos already has a moveset - he would just require a bit of nerfing to be fair in the playable department. Otherwise, there's really no other good characters for inclusion from the original FF - the playable characters could be done better with more popular skins, and other than the Fiends and Garland, the only other notable villain is Astos (and who wants Astos?).
  • Final Fantasy II: Minwu. Dissidia's nature as a popularity contest, combined with the lack of notable characters in early installments, makes it a bit difficult to choose reasonable characters for Dissidia 2. I've gone with Minwu due to his status as the main character in Soul of Rebirth (fitting my second condition above), as well as the fact that none of the other characters bring much to the table moveset-wise: Guy might work, but the other characters are too similar to their later counterparts (even though they came first. Ironic, no?)
  • Final Fantasy III: Xande. Due to the job system, the characters of FFIII have no consistent abilities, making it rather difficult to make a moveset for them. The support characters do have abilities in the DS version, but none have a particularly huge fanbase. So we look to the villains, where we have Xande, the main villain up to the point where the Cloud of Darkness wtfpwns you. Xande only really fulfills criteria 2, but none of the other characters in the game are better inclusions.
  • Final Fantasy IV: Rosa Joanna Farrell (Cosmos) and Kain Highwind (Chaos). FFIV is, for some reason, the most popular pre-VII game, and as such gets two characters (and as I said, Dissidia really just is a popularity contest). As per the rumors, Kain is guaranteed a spot, but on the side of Chaos due to the "darkness of his heart" or some other fan-wank term. And Rosa gets the Cosmos spot. Pretty self explanatory.
  • Final Fantasy V: Gilgamesh. As with FFIII, FFV's job system causes the characters to have no consistent abilities, and none of the main cast is popular enough to warrant a spot in the Dissidia lineup. But that's fine, because unlike FFIII, FFV has Gilgamesh, a very popular character who appears in multiple installments and has great moveset potential. He sort of fails criteria 2, due to being a side character or optional boss in all of his appearances (honestly, how would FFV be changed if he didn't appear?), but his popularity more than makes up for it.
  • Final Fantasy VI: Locke Cole. FFVI is a peculiar case: the large cast of playable characters means everyone has their favorites, and most of them are even important to the pre-WoR story (Edgar, Sabin, Celes and even Setzer could just as easily be chosen). But I'm going with Locke due to the above rumor, and also due to the fact that he's the primary male protagonist in the WoB. Moveset-wise, he would probably be quite similar to Zidane, which irks me due to Edgar, Sabin and Setzer all having more moveset potential. But that's how it goes.
  • Final Fantasy VII: Tifa Lockhart (Cosmos) and Vincent Valentine (Chaos). Yeah, screw you Zack (too similar to Cloud), Genesis (not much for moveset potential) and Weiss (why?). Again, Vincent goes to Chaos due to being a "dark" character, even though he's heroic in all of his appearances - chalk it up to Chaos being into vampires. And Tifa, from what I know, is incredibly popular (and also fights like a Monk, a "class" Dissidia doesn't have yet). The Compilation of FFVII has a number of other worthy characters though, so my choices could vary drastically.
  • Final Fantasy VIII: Rinoa Heartilly (Cosmos) and Seifer Almasy (Chaos). Again, FFVIII is one of the more popular installments, so it warrants two characters - Rinoa (a ranged fighter with both her boomerangs and magic) and Seifer (a more powerful but less combo-oriented variation of Squall). The rest of the main cast don't hold a candle to these two, due both to not much moveset potential and their lack of storyline involvement (and I don't think anyone will be disappointed to not play as Selphie).
  • Final Fantasy IX: Vivi is the only consistently popular character to come out of FFIX, due to his ability to be so adorable yet so badass at the same time. And plus, Dissidia lacks a classic Black Mage; Terra sort of fills that role, but we all know that Vivi would Doomsday her ass. I doubt FFIX will get two more characters, but if it does, I would put Vivi on the Chaos side and add in Steiner for the Cosmos side.
  • Final Fantasy X: Yuna and Seymour Guado. Again, if we look at the rumors, Seymour was planned as the FFX villain, but was scrapped in favor of Jecht, who opposes Tidus better - so who better to oppose Seymour than Yuna? Again, due to FFX's relative popularity, I'm including both characters, but if only one had to be chosen, I'd take Yuna due to starring in FFX-2 (but the less said about that the better).
  • Final Fantasy XI: I'm afraid I don't know much about FFXI due to never playing it, but from what I can glean from the wiki, there aren't any villains that oppose Shantotto, other than the events Final Fantasy XI: A Shantotto Ascension: The Legend Torn, Her Empire Born where she splits into two beings or something. I'll leave it to someone who has played FFXI to choose a suitable villain.
  • Final Fantasy XII: Vaan and Balthier (both Cosmos). We already have Gabranth, who serves as the returning Warrior of Chaos. Normally, I would suggest Basch fon Ronsenburg, but he's apparently not a very popular character. Both Vaan and Balthier appear in the other Ivalice titles, and the latter was even planned for the original Dissidia: besides, despite a lot of attempts, I cannot for the life of me come up with a unique moveset for Basch, whereas Vaan and Balthier have much more moveset potential.
  • Final Fantasy XIII: Sazh Katzroy and Galenth Dysley. Again, rumors suggest Sazh rather than Lightning, and Galenth is the major antagonist (despite Orphan being totally awesome, it's just not gonna happen). I doubt XIII will get more than two characters, and it might even only get Sazh as a bonus character.
  • Ivalice Characters: Either Ramza Beoulve or Delita Heiral. Personally, Delita struck me as being more interesting than Ramza, and he also has greater moveset potential due to his Holy Knight class. From what I've played of Tactics Advance and A2, none of the characters strike me as particularly memorable, though I've no idea of their popularity (apparently Montblanc is popular for some reason).

FractylEdit

A notion I kinda expect, though I think Chaos is not the main villian here(More like an afterthough) and a new godly villian takes his place. Plus, only the heroes(aside from those listed) from the previous Dissidia should return.

Soren_4everEdit

I would like to see two story modes, one for the villains and one for the heroes. With Cosmos and Chaos being the final bosses of each, but there would be a sort of "final dungeon" with The Creator as the final boss of Dissidia 2. I would like to see all 22 characters return with new characters, but if not, than these new characters would suffice.

TheycalleditSINEdit

I think the original characters are returning making a total of 4 characters for each ff. Here are some thoughts on who might make the final choice...

Wait, rumors say Sazh likely to appear in dissidia 2 rather than lightning? Where are these rumors coming from? Jamiemitsu FTW 21:55, March 26, 2010 (UTC)

Well I heard it from the FFWiki forums. And shouldn't Luso's better off fighting with Illua? ララ・ルナ・ステラ姫 FFTA2-FrimeldaSprite.png 06:09, April 22, 2010 (UTC)
