I think I remember me and Techno talking about this... I believe we decided (or I decided) that dividing by Field, Battle, and Event would be good ideas. Character themes are events, except for World Map themes. Would World Map themes be their own category, or would we rename Field to encompass World Map?

If someone finds that discussion that would be useful. JBed (talk) 18:08, September 6, 2014 (UTC)

Character themes would go in event, but there are other things that would go in event too. They're just themes that play during scenes, not just regular BGM for locations and in battles. Edgar and Sabin's Theme plays in Figaro Castle IIRC, so that would be a Field Theme. We could also consider an Event Theme as well, I don't remember how often it is played. By "Songs" do you mean themes, or specifically songs? JBed (talk) 18:14, September 7, 2014 (UTC)

Yeah...Jimcloud made a bunch of categories with the term "Songs" but I think is the wrong term. My browser dictionary defines "song" as "a short metrical composition intended or adapted for singing".Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 18:30, September 7, 2014 (UTC)
I'm going to move them all with Intangir Bot now, as I agreed with her on IRC.--FFVI Kefka Palazzo Sprite iOS Technobliterator TC 18:32, September 7, 2014 (UTC)

Well I am happy to see the music articles get some activity. Not many people edit those.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 19:15, September 7, 2014 (UTC)

My thoughts exactly. With Curtain Call coming out, a lot of pages need updated, and a lot more pages need made, bringing light to the sad shape our song articles are in. The more efforts that can be made to improve them, the better, in my opinion. Jimcloud 19:23, September 7, 2014 (UTC)
if i may chime in (see what i did there lol), in the professional music world, and also to the lay man that bothers to know the difference, calling something a song necessitates that it contain lyrics. Its more appropriate to call each piece of music a track, as in Battle Tracks (hence the term soundtrack). I'm of the view that 3 categories are generally sufficient - Battle Tracks, Field Tracks (taking after FFXIV's original 2 OSTs) and a 3rd category for Themes. More often than not, Battle and Field tracks are mutually exclusive categories, and Themes seldom overlap but if they do it's easier to prioritize them if there are fewer categories. By themes, I mean music used only in specific times for a particular moment. Character themes would best belong here.. as well as cross series stuff like Victory Fanfare and the Prelude (i suppose). I would hesitate to make Songs its own category because vocals are being used in all 3 categories mentioned above as well--Arciele Spira (talk) 03:50, October 11, 2014 (UTC)

Albums Category[]

I was wondering, maybe the Category:Albums could also be better organised. Now everything is just lumped here. Could at least divide between game soundtrack albums, and others? Some games have specific categories, like Category:Final Fantasy XIII Soundtracks.Keltainentoukokuu (talk) 18:49, September 17, 2014 (UTC)

Composer Categories[]

Should we also make composer categories? We have concept artist categories (which are in very big need of updating) so why not also categorise music media per their composers as well?—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 11:36, October 10, 2014 (UTC)

I quite like this idea. Tia-LewiseRydia - Young battle 11:47, October 10, 2014 (UTC)
Yes, we should. Support.--FFVI Kefka Palazzo Sprite iOS Technobliterator TC 11:49, October 10, 2014 (UTC)
Just one question: the naming convention: will it be "Category:<Composer> Music Media"?—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 23:13, October 10, 2014 (UTC)
