The Flanbanero is an enemy in Final Fantasy XIII-2. It belongs to the flan family. It is a fire-elemental flan that can be recruited to the player's Paradigm Pack.

Stats[]

Paradigm Pack[]

The Flanbanero is a Ravager that learns mostly fire-elemental spells, but also learns a couple of wind-elemental spells near the end of its development. Its stat development is heavily weighted towards magic. It resists physical attacks, both innately and through its passive abilities it learns. Like most other flan, its casting animation is long and slow.

Behind the scenes[]

The Flanbanero was seen as a recruitable monster in the Bresha Ruins in a gameplay video before the game's release. However, it is found in the Sunleth Waterscape in the final version. In the early gameplay video, the Flandragora's name changed to "Flanbanero" when captured.

Etymology[]

Its name is an amalgam of "flan" and "habanero". Flan refers to the recurring genus of monsters in the Final Fantasy series.

The word Flan refers to an open pastry or sponge cake containing a sweet or savory filling. A typical flan of this sort is round, with shortcrust pastry, usually coated with sweet syrup. It is similar to a custard tart or a South African melktert.

Habanero is a variety of chilli pepper, which the Flanbanero resembles physically.
