The Fire Lizard, also known as the AGAMA or Agama in the Nintendo Entertainment System and PlayStation versions, is an enemy in the original Final Fantasy. Fire Lizards appear in the Mount Gulg's fifth basement and can appear in the fourth as a guardian. It also appears in the Chaos Shrine, in the room where Marilith appears, as well as many monsters from the volcano, like the Fire Elemental. Fire Lizards can be easily distinguished from other members of the lizard family by their bright red coloration.

In several places inside the volcano, the Fire Lizard guards chests and rooms. For example, the chest that contains the Flame Armor (guarded by a Red Dragon) is also guarded by a Fire Lizard.

Stats[]

AI script[]

Action Probability
Attack 60.00%
Blaze 35.00%
Flee 5.00%

Prior to Pixel Remaster:

Action Probability
Attack 75.00%
Blaze 25.00%

In older versions, Fire Lizard has 200 morale, and only gains a chance to run away if the lead party member is Lv61 or higher.

Battle[]

Fire Lizards are weak to Ice-based spells, but are also extremely resistant to Fire.

Strategy[]

Fire Lizard is not a challenging enemy, and appears alone when fighting them as guardians; it has low Defense and Agility. It can usually be defeated before it has a chance to attack (using Attack command and Ice). His only trick is an attack called Blaze (HEAT in the NES version), which does Fire-elemental damage to all party members. Nulblaze mitigates the already-low amount of damage it deals.
