Welcome to Shinra News (formerly Current Events, Midgar Press and Bonga Bugle), the propaganda machine of the Shinra Electric Power Company, now hosted at the Final Fantasy Wiki. Here, special news pertaining to the Wiki and the Final Fantasy series that grab our attention will be reported for all to read. Anyone can start a news report, but be sure to leave the date, location, source and sign your report with three tildes (~~~) before sending in to the printing press.
News reports should be structured in a chronological manner, with recent issues posted at the top. To post a reaction or write a comment, follow the links provided according to the respective news link. Remember, only news related to the Wiki and to the Final Fantasy series are allowed. Let's work together as a community to maintain the newsletter! If you find that our reports are either incorrect or incomplete, feel free to edit them as you feel fit. Just be sure to include a note that you've edited it with (''Edited by'') along with those same ~~~ below the original reporter's name.

Final Fantasy on Android is available in the Google Play store

The original Final Fantasy has made its début on the Google Play store. It is the same as the iOS version and the recent Windows Phone 7 version, both of which are based on the PlayStation Portable remake from 2007.
Final Fantasy on Android is available for $6.99 in the Google Play store and runs on Android 2.1-compatible devices and up.
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy Roster Complete
The fourth party member of the game has been revealed. "Ringabel" (リングアベル), seen on the far right in this artwork, is a young man with amnesia travelling the land in search of a girl to court, and is in collection of what is known as the "D Notebook", which contains prophesies of future events.
The game's summon system has also been revealed, and is one unlike any yet seen in the series. Players will be able to exchange data on their characters with friends over the internet, and can call their friend's character into battle as a summon.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn announced

Previously dubbed Final Fantasy XIV 2.0, a rebuilt Final Fantasy XIV is renamed Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Square Enix hopes this new version of the game will become a symbol of a completely new Final Fantasy XIV and marks the beginning of a new stage as the latest title in the Final Fantasy series.
A new website was launched today, where visitors can check out a new trailer.
Final Fantasy VII to be re-released on PC with added features

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII will be re-released for PC. The new release will include achievements, cloud saves and a character booster, which it will allow the player to pay real money to boost characters' stats and gain gil.
Hiromichi Tanaka leaves Square Enix

At the closing of this year’s VanaFest, on the 10th anniversary of Final Fantasy XI Hiromichi Tanaka announced to fans across the globe that he will be leaving Square Enix due to health concerns. Tanaka has been with Square, before it became Squaresoft and then Square Enix, as a founding member alongside Hironobu Sakaguchi.

Final Fantasy XI’s Newest Expansion will be Seekers of Adoulin

Commemorating a decade of Final Fantasy XI, Vanafest 2012 revealed a new expansion for the MMO. Seekers of Adoulin will promise new lands, new tales, new jobs—including the "Geomancer," confirmed on the expansion's official site.

An art exhibition for Final Fantasy artwork to be held in Shibuya
Square Enix will host an art gallery for Final Fantasy artwork in Shibuya to commemorate the series' 25th anniversary. The exhibit will have development materials, artwork by Yoshitaka Amano, various objects on display and stage events. Some items are exclusive that have never been seen elsewhere.
The exhibit is to be held on August 31, September 1 and September 2, the 31st being an early access event, the other two being for the general public.
Final Fantasy III coming to PSP

The DS port of Final Fantasy III will soon see release in Japan on the PSP. The game will be available both on UMD and the Playstation Network, and will be released September 20th. There's no word yet on if a North American or European release will follow.
Square Enix releases a tech demo named Agni's Philosophy

Using a Final Fantasy motif as a showcase, Square Enix has revealed at E3 its Luminous Engine, which it describes as being for "next generation quality games". At the end of the video as well as the official website , Square Enix states it's a Final Fantasy Tech Demo.

Square Enix releases new Final Fantasy Dimensions, Theatrhythm and Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 screenshots

Square Enix released a batch of screenshots for their new mobile game, Final Fantasy Dimensions, english images of the Nintendo 3DS rhythm game Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and new concept art and the first in game images of Final Fantasy XIV 2.0, as well as Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

Square Enix Announces E3 Lineup
Square Enix has recently announced its lineup for this year's E3, with two Final Fantasy products announced to be shown: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy for Nintendo 3DS, which will presumably show English gameplay and allow attendants to play a demo; as well as Final Fantasy Dimensions for iOS and Android, a mysterious product trademarked by Square Enix on January 23rd of this year. It is said that Dimensions is "drawing upon the roots of the series with such features as beautiful 2D pixel art, job-driven character growth, additional scenarios in which to inherit the jobs of your adventuring companions, and a classic story of light, darkness, and crystals, Final Fantasy Dimensions delivers the best of Final Fantasy, retro and fresh alike, directly to your smartphone."

Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Website Open

The 25th anniversary website for the series has opened. Fans can see profiles for the 14 main series games, with character profiles, highlights of the games's combat systems and notable monsters, and important and famous scenes, all while listening to the main theme of whichever game they're reading up on.

Final Fantasy XI: 10th Anniversary Concert announced

Celebrating ten years of Final Fantasy XI Square Enix has announced the Final Fantasy XI: 10th Anniversary Concert will be held at Zellerbach Auditorium in Berkeley, California on September 22, 2012. The event will feature over 70 musicians drawn from the area's orchestras, and be led by conductor Arnie Roth. Attending the event will also be special guests Naoshi Mizuta and Kumi Tanioka who will both be on hand for VIP meet & greet sessions. Concert attendees will receive a special Final Fantasy XI in-game item, the Maestro's Baton. The item registration code will only be handed out at the concert and will not be provided online.
Tickets go on sale Friday, June 1st at 12:00 pm on the Zellerbach Auditorium website.
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy premiered at London's MCM Expo

The English language version of Theatrhythm Final Fantasy has been shown with a demo at London's MCM Expo from 25th-27th of May. The demo included the five 'Story Mode' songs from Final Fantasy XII along with other series games, allowing players to experience all five styles of song (i.e. Opening, Field, Event, Battle and Ending).

The first screenshots of the downloadable Lightning episode, "Requiem of the Goddess," have been released, depicting her fight against Caius Ballad with new Paradigm roles exclusive to her. Also released are new screens and renders of costumes for Noel, Serah, and Mog.

Final Fantasy XIV starts Legacy and Welcome Back Campaigns

In preparation for the release of the 2.0 update, Naoki Yoshida announced two campaigns for Final Fantasy XIV players.
For the "Legacy" campaign, any player who subscribes to Final Fantasy XIV for 90 or more cumulative days during the period between January 6, 2012 and the 2.0 beta test release will gain a permanent fee discount, a place in the game's credits and an exclusive chocobo mount designed by Akihiko Yoshida.
And, as part of a "Welcome Back" campaign, from May 9 to May 20, anyone with a currently inactive account will be able to try the game again for free.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Snow and Valfodr DLC Detailed

The Snow and Valfodr DLC will be released on the May 15th. No prices yet announced. Valfodr will make his appearance in Snow's episode DLC. They also announced that Valfodr will be the most powerful enemy in Final Fantasy XIII-2. Snow has a 30% catch rate and Valfodr’s rate depends on his level, but at maximum level the rate is 100% which should give an idea of how hard it will be to defeat.

Final Fantasy XIII-2' characters Lightning, Hope, Sazh, and Noel have been chosen to model outfits for the Prada 2012 Men's Spring/Summer Collection. This is in line with the Final Fantasy series' 25th anniversary.

Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy V will appear on Final Fantasy XIII-2 as DLC

It looks like our Inter-dimension traveling friend has found his way into Final Fantasy XIII-2‘s Coliseum! Not only that, but there are two new costumes for Final Fantasy XIII-2 on the way for Serah and Noel. Serah’s costume was designed by AKB48 starlet Yuko Oshima, while Noel’s outfit is a crossover from Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed.

Villains Ultros and Typhon from Final Fantasy VI will appear on Final Fantasy XIII-2 as DLC
Ultros and Typhon are part of a new downloadable content pack for Final Fantasy XIII-2. Square Enix have not confirmed when these DLC packs will be out in the US or Europe, but they are scheduled for release in Japan on March 27.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions now available for the iPad.

Starting today, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions will be available for download for the iPad. Like the iPhone version, the port will feature touch control menu navigation and will include the re-translation originally done for the PSP version.
The game can be purchased from the App Store for $17.99 or £12.99.

Square Enix and BioWare to collaborate for a Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC.

Square Enix and BioWare are set to collaborate for a Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC. Though no specifics were given, the DLC(s) will be based from BioWare's upcoming Mass Effect 3.
This is the second DLC for Final Fantasy XIII-2 to be based from another video game. Square Enix recently collaborated with Ubisoft for an Assassin's Creed DLC costume for Noel Kreiss based on Ezio Auditore.

Nobuo Uematsu was in tears when he played Theatrhythm Final Fantasy. The famed composer of the several songs featured in the game wrote in Twitter, "I played Theatrhythm Final Fantasy for the first time today. Not too shabby! As I remembered various things from the past 20 years, I was reduced to tears. FF music fans should definitely play it. Won't you cry with me?".

Final Fantasy XIII-2 has just made its proud release in North America on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 with a regular edition, which will be sold for $59.99 and a special edition that includes a four disc soundtrack, an artbook, and special packaging that will be sold for $79.99. European users will have the game released on February 3rd.

Nomura reveals details on Theatrhythm Final Fantasy new demo and DLC

In an interview in this week's issue of Weekly Famitsu, Square Enix producer Tetsuya Nomura revealed that a second demo for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy is being planned for release in early February. "The demo will consist of two songs", said Nomura.

According to the latest Playstation Broadcast, a demo of Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be coming to the North American Playstation Store on January 10th. The demo will be coming to the European Store and Xbox Live on January 11th, according to Square Enix.

Famitsu had conducted a poll for the games that made Japanese gamers cry, with Final Fantasy X at the top of the list. There are 5 other FF titles noted: Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII- coming in at second place, Final Fantasy VII at #8, Final Fantasy Type-0 at #10, Final Fantasy IX at #12, and Final Fantasy XIII at #16.
