Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival brings new information on upcoming content[]

December 20th by Keltainentoukokuu

The Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Tokyo revealed the Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward Collectors Edition details, a new main theme, details on the new race, the new high-end raid focus, and two new jobs.

The new race is the Au Ra that has some reptilian qualities. The Au Ra males sport muscular builds while the females are elegant and mysterious. There will be a variety of different horn styles to choose from.

The new high-end raid will have Alexander, an enormous, long-abandoned mechanical fortress that must be defeated from within.

The new jobs are Astrologian that harnesses the power of the stars to cast healing and supporting magicks, and Machinist, a physical, ranged DPS that deals damage with a firearm whose efficiency will be partly determined by the successful deployment of mechanical turrets onto the battlefield to take down the enemies from multiple angles.

"Answers" will be retired as the theme of Final Fantasy XIV and the new saga will have new composition by Nobuo Uematsu.

Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward will have a Collector's Edition coming in a box that features art by Yoshitaka Amano that doubles as a display for the dragon mount figurine included in the set. Also included will be an art book and a video disc and in-game items: a flying griffin mount, a Dark Knight headpiece inspired by Cecil Harvey from Final Fantasy IV and a wind-up Kain Highwind minion.

New trailers and more from Jump Festa[]

December 20th by Keltainentoukokuu

Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy Type-0 HD have featured prominently at the Jump Festa convention in Japan. Both games have new trailers out.

Watch the Final Fantasy XV trailer at YouTube

Watch the Final Fantasy Type-0 HD trailer at YouTube

Bunch of fresh information on Final Fantasy XV has also been revealed.

The giant at the end of the new trailer is Titan and will play a role in the story, but he won't be included in the upcoming demo released with Final Fantasy Type-0 HD in March. However, another summon that has a smaller role in the story will be seen instead, which the players will be able to summon. When players will summon Titan in the full game, he will be as huge as seen in the trailer.

The new town appears seamless, but currently Square Enix can't guarantee the entire game will be entirely seamless although they are doing their best. Important scenes will likely require some loading. The demo, however, will be seamless. The town is "Lestarg" and is connected to the story surrounding Titan. It is not one of the game's largest towns and won't be in the demo. It has a hotel where players can rest, eat, and shop, along with other events. There was an older version of the town, but the latest version many more things going on that was shown in the trailer. The full-release version is said to look nicer, and will have more people. Approaching NPCs allows players to listen in on their conversations.

Insomnia is the capital of the Kingdom of Lucis where Noctis is the prince. This is where a ceremonial signing will take place.

General Cor Leonis will join the party as a guest party member and there will be other guests as well. Leonis is not Noctis's friend but an aide to his father and will look out for Noctis and his friends. Cindy (or Cidney in Japanese) is a mechanic who'll tell the player about gameplay. She will appear in the demo. Her name hints at her being the Cid of Final Fantasy XV.

If the party forgoes sleeping the stat boosts obtained from foods will lose effect. The sleep element was added to emphasize the characters as living people. Players can can eat meals at camp for status buffs and purchase ingredients to cook at camp. By properly sleeping, the party will maintain the buffs obtained this way.

The party needs to take a break to level up. Avoiding camping makes it possible to to attempt low-level challenge runs. The party can go three days without sleeping, but any longer than that will see adverse effects. One in-game day lasts a real-life hour 40 to 45 minutes being daytime, and the rest being night time. This bit is currently in development, and is subject to change. There will be events where the party must fight for days at a time.

Square Enix is working on adding more action varieties. They feel that magic isn't yet too impressive, so they're not showing it. They will work on the magic aspect after they are done with the summons. Originally they had decided only Noctis uses magic, but felt it wouldn’t be as fun gameplay-wise, so now everyone in the party can use magic.

Trains will be available for transportation and the party can freely walk around inside them when they do so.

The demo will have various languages, but due to the amount of content and problems in schedule, Square Enix can't guarantee all will be included in the initial release.

Square Enix prepared many scenes for the latest trailer, but since they didn't use them all, map director Yasuyuki Matsunami was unhappy. Director Hajime Tabata explained that trailers can be made either to advertise or show the state of development. They showed Behemoth and weather effects in the previous trailers, and Tabata says this was put together in a rush. The focus for the Jump Festa trailer was advertising, which was done by the editing studio, and not in cooperation with the development staff. Thus not all the scenes requested by staff were included. Some of the omitted scenes were shown separately, including one that highlighted Cindy, and another with town exploration.

New Final Fantasy XV Trailer and Director[]

September 17th by --BlueHighwind

As part of Tokyo Game Show 2014, Square Enix has dropped several new announcements about Final Fantasy XV along with a new trailer. Tetsuya Nomura, who has directed the project since its inception in 2006 has stepped down from the director's chair, giving it over to Final Fantasy Type-0 director, Hajime Tabata. Nomura will remain credited for creating the story, universe, and characters, but will now focus on working on other Square Enix projects, namely the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts III.

The trailer itself is two and a half minutes long. Unlike every previous trailer, it does not take part in the city of Accordo but rather the larger world. The main characters, led by Noctis, drive around in a car on a road trip to the ocean. Along the way, the trailer shows off the variety of the combat and the environments, from lush green meadows to harsh red industrial deserts. These environments appear to be large, with no visible walls or boundaries. Enemy behavior seems to change, as some monsters charge right at the party, while others peacefully graze. At least one monster is so huge as to shock even Noctis and friends, it is a massive creature reaching Godzilla-scale.

At the conclusion of the trailer Noctis says "It's been a long time coming... almost there", hinting at the final stages of production the game has most likely reached. Accompanying this are the traditional notes of the "Prelude." With a demo coming this spring, Final Fantasy XV will soon have a playable form, meaning a version in stores cannot be much farther out. The trailer includes no release date besides a final note of "IN DEVELOPMENT".

Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III to skip E3 2014[]

June 6th by Crystal Tear

In an interview by Famitsu translated by SQEX.info, Shinji Hashimoto, producer for the upcoming PlayStation 4/Xbox One game Final Fantasy XV has confirmed that both it and Kingdom Hearts III will skip the event. Speaking on the status of the game, he said "development for Final Fantasy XV is going well. Internally, we try to ascertain the best timing for revealing new information about Final Fantasy XV to the fans. So when we were going over our promotion plans, we judged that this year’s E3 would not be the best time to exhibit information about Final Fantasy XV. Instead we are currently planning to exhibit new information at events after E3 2014."

Hashimoto also clarified on an earlier rumor that he had confirmed their appearance there at a Thailand Comic Con, saying that "There was a misunderstanding in the reporting of that, a number of stories were accidentally mixed into one. When I was asked about Final Fantasy XV's presence at E3, the answer I gave was that 'I can't answer yet.' But somehow what I had said was framed in a different context when it was reported."

Final Fantasy XV was originally unveiled in 2006 as Final Fantasy Versus XIII and remained mostly under the radar until its re-reveal at E3 2013. Since its re-reveal, there has been little information or new footage from the game. Which events the game will be featured at in the future is as yet unknown.

It was stated new information on other games from Square Enix would be present at E3.

April 1st by Crystal Tear

In an interview with Japanese website Nikkei Trendy, current president of Square Enix Yosuke Matsuda has announced that the company is changing its focus concerning AAA titles, including core series such as Final Fantasy. According to Matsuda, the company has been losing its focus in terms of trying to appeal to a broader audience while forgetting hardcore fanbases. Matsuda has stated that "Due to having split [the development mindset] according to regions around the world, we weren’t able to see this clearly up until now, but fans of JRPGs are really spread around the world." Following the success of Bravely Default, a classic-style JRPG for the Nintendo 3DS, in North America, the company will be focusing less on the global aspect and catering for core audiences, such as fans of JRPGs like Bravely Default and Final Fantasy.

April Fools: Final Fantasy X second sequel announced - will be tied to upcoming Final Fantasy VII entry[]

April 1st by Drake Clawfang

Today Square Enix has confirmed that another sequel to Final Fantasy X is in the planning stages in the wake of the release of the HD remastering of Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. However, in a surprise move, the game will definitively connect the world of Spira to the world of Gaia of Final Fantasy VII in preparation for a new entry into the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII.

Kazushige Nojima, who participated in the writing for both games, discussed these plans in a video announcement posted on Square-Enix's website. The Final Fantasy X title will tell its own story, but certain elements about the character Shinra and his connection to the Shinra Electric Power Company will be more conclusively established. Various information about the nature of the the aeons will also be revealed that will be used as the basis for Sephiroth's plan in the next Final Fantasy VII game. Yoshinori Kitase stated that Sephiroth's plan involves the summons and does not require him to have a physical body, and to combat him AVALANCHE will reunite, and encounter characters introduced in other Compilation titles.

The company is currently focusing its efforts on the Final Fantasy X title before moving on to the Final Fantasy VII title. Neither game had its title announced, though Kitase and Nojima avoided referring to the former as "Final Fantasy X-3".

"We've been waiting a long time for this and we're quite excited to finally take on this project," Kitase ended.

Details on Final Fantasy XV's English voice acting surface[]

27th February by Keltainentoukokuu
Edited by Crystal Tear

It appears Square Enix is working on, or at least planning for, the English voice acting of the upcoming Final Fantasy XV.

Voice Actress Katy Townsend listed "various" roles in the game as part of her resume, and Olivia Hack and Greg Berg are now also listed for the title by IMDb, although IMDb is not as reliable source than an actor's own resume. Townsend's resume lists Chris Borders as voice casting director, which likely means that voice work will be performed by world leading voice over production company TikiMan Productions.

Producer Shinji Hashimoto has promised news "shortly" during the Japanese launch event of the PS4 yesterday.

Update: David Yang, Senior PR Manager Square Enix, has confirmed that English voice casting has yet to begin for Final Fantasy XV. In a later update, Yang stated that voice acting for the final game had yet to begin in all languages.

Square Enix interested in bringing future Final Fantasy games to PC[]

19th February by Keltainentoukokuu

Square Enix is interested in bringing future Final Fantasy games to the PC. Modern Final Fantasy games, such as the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy, are already developed on PC and then ported to the consoles, and as far as the technology is concerned, it would have been possible to make a PC version. Square Enix decided against it due to deeming the market situation unfavorable for such a release, and also for security reasons.

But as there are many regions and countries where PC is strong, in terms of Square Enix's hope of delivering games to every country in the world and to as many gamers as possible, they are "definitely interested" in pursuing that route in the future.

He said he would love to do it, but that it would be such a huge undertaking he has doubts about the motivation it would require of him to make it. He also cited budget constraints and the availability of the game's original staff as barriers to such a project.

I won't rule out the possibility, but it would take a lot to make it happen. But should I ever take it on, it would have to be the biggest project I've done. My life work. So I would have to be as highly motivated as that to end up with something I'm very happy with. It's a huge thing for me.

Final Fantasy XV "quite far into development" and is given high priority by Square Enix[]

February 13th by Keltainentoukokuu

In a recent interview with Videogamer Yoshinori Kitase talked about the status of Final Fantasy XV: "We can't give too much information but certainly looking at Final Fantasy XV, it's not as if it's in competition with Kingdom Hearts 3 for resources or anything like that. It's quite far into development now and it is being given a very high priority within the company itself."

Kitase also talked about the game's relation to Final Fantasy XIII and Fabula Nova Crystallis: Final Fantasy: "Right from the start when we first it announced it as Versus XIII, the game itself was backed up by the same Crystal legend: the Fabulla Nova Crystallis mythology that underpins the whole of the XIII series. So even though it's not necessarily the same universe or the same game, they're all linked and underpinned by the backdrop of that legend. Now it's moved on - obviously the title's been changed to Final Fantasy XV - but that hasn't actually changed. The story and the world is still going to be linked and backed up by that. So yes, there is the link between XIII and XV, and they both share that mythology as a backdrop and a starting point.

The trailer is done using the 16-bit style graphics as seen in the original release of Final Fantasy VI and chiptune remixes of "FINAL FANTASY XIII - Promise", "Lightning's Theme", "Blinded By Light", "Saber's Edge", "Born Anew", "Etro's Champion", "Lightning's Theme ~Unprotected Future~", "Heart of Chaos", "Hollow Seclusion - Game Over -", and ends with a fragment of the opening of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

The story recap itself misses a lot of events and contains many errors.
