Nyx and Noctis

Promotional image of Noctis Lucis Caelum and Nyx Ulric from Final Fantasy XV. Nyx is the main protagonist of Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV and a member of the titular Kingsglaive, tasked with defending the capital of Lucis, Insomnia, from the hostile nation of Niflheim. Kingsglaive takes place during the events of XV, focusing on the events in the capital while Noctis travels around the countryside and stars Aaron Paul as Nyx, with Lena Heady as Lunafreya Nox Fleuret and Sean Bean as Regis Lucis Caelum. Though the movie was panned by critics, Hajime Tabata has claimed that "experiencing both [the game and the movie] ensures a deeper appreciation of the two."

Indeed, the two characters are clearly meant to complement each other, which Square Enix emphasizes even in their similar appearances and in their names: Noctis is a form of the Latin nox (in English, night) while Nyx is named for the Greek goddess of the night. Here Noctis and Nyx each hold one of Nyx's daggers, which can be obtained as a powerful late-game weapon in XV, Ulric's Kikris. According to the item description, one of the kikris was forged in Nyx's homeland, Galahd, while the other was forged in the Crown City of Insomnia.
