Though he will launch many attacks at first, don't let this weak charade fool you. Just scratch him and he'll run away.

Final Fantasy VI PlayStation Bestiary entry

Siegfried, also known as Ziegfried, is a boss in Final Fantasy VI. There are two enemies with this name; an impostor fought aboard the Phantom Train, and the real Siegfried as an optional enemy in Dragon's Neck Colosseum if the player bets a Megalixir.

Battle[]

When fought aboard the Phantom Train, Siegfried opens the battle with eight physical attacks on random targets that do very little damage. With only a hundred HP, almost any attack will defeat Siegfried in one hit. If Shadow is in the party, Interceptor might block and counter Siegfried's attack, defeating him without the player getting a chance to attack.

In the Coliseum, the real Siegfried will tell the party of a person impersonating him, which is proven when he is fought, as he is much more powerful. His normal physical attack can do a thousand points of damage per hit, and he can use Metal Cutter to do high damage. He can also use Hyperdrive that ignores Defense and thus is almost guaranteed to KO the player's character.

Curiously, a Rage of Siegfried's Coliseum appearance exists in the game coding, but as Siegfried never appears on the Veldt, Gau can never learn it.

Coliseum setup[]

The easiest way to defeat Siegfried is to equip Terra, Celes, Locke, or Edgar with the Ultima Weapon, another strong weapon, a Genji Glove, and the Master's Scroll. If the player is lucky, their character will attack eight times and likely kill Siegfried in one turn. Under this set-up, each attack only needs to do 4,000–5,000 damage to kill Siegfried.
