The Tarantula, also known as the ARACHNID in the NES version, is an enemy in the original Final Fantasy. It is common in caves and some forests around the time the Warriors of Light restore the Earth Crystal, and its attacks cause Poison. It is best to carry some Antidotes when traveling through these areas.

Etymology[]
Tarantula refers to a family of spiders which inhabit much of the warmer areas of the world. Known for their impressive size, Tarantulas are often kept as pets or used in cuisine. Despite their tendency to inflict the Poison status ailment in the Final Fantasy series, most tarantulas are not dangerous to humans.
