PuPu is a one-of-a-kind Triple Triad card in Final Fantasy VIII used to play the minigame and for turning into items with Quezacotl's Card Mod. PuPu is the forty-eighth card in the inventory and the fourth Level 5 card.
PuPu's card has an A on the right, which has the value 10 for the minigame. All other cards with an A are Level 9 or 10 cards, making PuPu an exceptionally strong and rare card for Level 5. However, by the the time the player can do the UFO? quest to even get the card, they will likely already have a hand of Level 9 and 10 cards, making the PuPu card more of a curiosity and a trophy than a viable card to use in the minigame.
Obtain[]
The PuPu monster gives the party its card if they appease him by giving him 5 Elixirs. The PuPu will rejoice and the battle will end, and the player gains the card as a guaranteed drop. If the player kills PuPu, or escapes from the encounter, the card is lost forever as there is no other way to get it, even from the Card Club during the endgame like with all other "one-of-a-kind" Triple Triad cards.
To meet the PuPu, the player needs to encounter a flying saucer on the world map in four set locations, and then fight the UFO? on the plateau above the Chocobo Sanctuary in Esthar region. After this, PuPu appears on the site where Balamb Garden used to be. He can only be encountered once, and so the player should ensure they have 5 Elixirs in their inventory beforehand. This is a late game sidequest as the player needs the Ragnarok to reach some of the places where the UFO? appears.
Card Mod[]
The PuPu card refines into a Hungry Cookpot with Quezacotl's Card Mod ability, which teaches the Devour ability to a Guardian Force. However, the PuPu card is unique and the player can never get another one if they use up the card they have. Still, modding the card does not prevent the player from completing the card list and getting the star icon in the menu 
, as the game keeps track of which cards the player has held and after having had the card once, the player can use it up. Though Devour can be useful, Eden also has it natively. Hungry Cookpot can also be refined into a Shaman Stone, which can then be made into a Rosetta Stone, an excellent item that teaches a GF Ability x4.
Physical version[]
In 1999, following the release of Final Fantasy VIII in Japan, Bandai produced a full set of collectible Triple Triad cards in Final Fantasy VIII Carddass Masters Perfect Visuals. The set was made up of the 110 cards as seen in the game along with 72 artwork cards and a collector's edition playing mat. The cards have a blue side and a red side. The cards have become a rare collector's item.
