Tri-Face is a Triple Triad card in Final Fantasy VIII used to play the minigame and for turning into items with Quezacotl's Card Mod. Tri-Face is the twenty-fifth card in the inventory and the third Level 3 card.

Being a Level 3 card, the card values on the Tri-Face are not strong, but it has three of the same value and thus may be especially useful for games that use Same and/or Plus. It is a poison-elemental card that is used for when the Elemental rule is in play. Elemental is encountered halfway through the game at Fishermans Horizon, though it is also a rule in Dollet and the Queen of Cards can be paid money to introduce new rules to a region. Placing Tri-Face on a tile with the matching poison symbol boosts all its values by +1. This does not count toward Same/Plus triggering, but does count for Combo mechanics.

Obtain[]

The Tri-Face monster has a 3.5% chance to drop the card. Using the Card command on a Tri-Face has a 93.7% chance to procure a Tri-Face card when it succeeds.

Any AI Triple Triad player who uses Level 3 cards has a chance of using Tri-Face in a play, from where the player can win it in a card match.

Card Mod[]

A Tri-Face card refines into a Curse Spike with Quezacotl's Card Mod ability. It is a value item to collect, as it turns into Pain (ST Mag-RF), an excellent junctioning spell, and 100 of them become Dark Matter (Tool-RF) that teaches Quistis her ultimate Blue Magic spell, Shockwave Pulsar, as well as also being an excellent refine item. In the original PlayStation version, Siren needs to be at Level 100 for Tool-RF to make Dark Matter, but it is no longer a prerequisite in the PC and Remastered versions. As the player needs so many Curse Spikes, it is good to always take Tri-Face cards when they are on offer.
