MageMasher

Zidane's Mage Masher.

Weapon originally used for combating mages.

Description

Zidane Tribal's Mage Masher (メイジマッシャー, Meijimasshā?) is an incarnation of the recurring weapon, Mage Masher, that appears in several games in the Final Fantasy series. It was originally a low-powered weapon for Zidane, but in recent titles is depicted as his signature weapon, and is depicted dual-wielding two copies of it.

Design[]

In-game.

The Mage Masher features a green-gray handle with gold lines running around it, and a slightly jagged curved purple blade. Swirl markings run along the middle of the blade's length. The markings and the edges of the blade are a lighter shade than the rest. In Dissidia Final Fantasy and Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy, the Mage Masher is longer compared to the handle, and has a tassel on the end of the handle, but otherwise is identical to the original design. Its design is the same in all of Zidane's alternate outfits, but its color changes.

As with all his daggers in Final Fantasy IX, Zidane wields his Mage Mashers in a reverse grip, and in Dissidia and Dissidia 012 can join them at the handles to wield them as a single, dual-bladed weapon. This is a reference to item synthesis in Final Fantasy IX, where two Mage Mashers could be fused into The Ogre, which bears a similar appearance to two Mage Mashers fused at the handles.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy IX[]

The Mage Masher bears 14 Attack and can inflict Silence when used with Add Status with 20% chance. It teaches Flee and Detect.

It can be stolen from Masked Man (first battle), found in the Ice Cavern, and purchased in Dali and some other shops for 500 gil. It can be used to synthesize the Butterfly Sword, The Ogre, and Exploda.

Final Fantasy XV[]

A pair of Zidane's Mage Mashers appeared as a pre-order bonus for players using the services of Square Enix Online Store, or anybody who completed Quest 2 of the Amazon Pre-Order "Road Trip" website. They are now available as a DLC item.

Daggers can be equipped by Noctis and Ignis.

Dissidia 012 Final Fantasy[]

Zidane again wields the Mage Mashers as his sole weapons in battle. Bartz and manikins wield them in the same fashion as the original game.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT[]

The Mage Masher is Zidane's default weapon, and is based on the weapon's appearance from Final Fantasy IX. Like all other characters' weapons, having it equipped carries no advantages or disadvantages.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy[]

Zidane wields the Mage Mashers as his weapons in-game.

A Play Arts figure of Zidane for Final Fantasy IX depicts him wielding the Mage Masher and the Orichalcon, Zidane's off-hand weapon that he uses in the game when wielding daggers.
