Battle[]

FFVII Lay Flat

Lay Flat.

It resembles a giant quadrupedal mosquito, and can only use Lay Flat, a powerful attack. They appear in groups of three to five, and sometimes appear with Twin Brains.

Strategy[]

If their Lay Flat is devastating the party, one can equip a Cover Materia on a hardy character who is in the back row, such as Barret, to take the blows. For further damage reduction, the covering character can use Defend. The player can use Fire3 (with Fire linked to All), Ifrit or Beta to kill groups of Kyuvilduns quickly. If the player has L4 Suicide, it can be used to easily cripple whole groups of them for a low MP cost.

Etymology[]

The meaning of this enemy's name is unknown, however, it is likely formed from multiple words being merged together as with a number of other enemies from Final Fantasy VII. The キュ (kyu?) might come from culex (キューレックス, kyūrekkusu?), a genus of mosquito. It is likely that the ビル (biru?) comes from "evil" (イビル, ibiru?).

In determining the most appropriate translation for the wiki without knowing the original intention, "du" was chosen for (デュ, dyu?) as it is used in words like "producer" (プロデューサー, purodyūsā?). Choosing to use "nus" for ヌス (nusu?) instead of "ns" is because the developers chose to use (nu?) instead of (n?) which would be more appropriate if they wanted to more closely mimic the lack of a vowel sound following the "n" before the "s".
