Grenade
FFTA Grenade Portrait

Powerful bomb. Covered in ice due to elemental shift.

Description

The Grenade in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is an Ice-elemental blue variation of the Bomb. Like the Bomb, the Grenade has access to Blowup and Chill, the latter dealing powerful ice damage all around the user, healing itself while hurting adjacent units for no MP cost.

The Grenade's Blowup can be learned as Blue Magic in the same way that regular Bombs do. Beastmasters cannot make Grenades use Blowup even after they control them. (This applies to Bombs as well.) Grenades must thus be coaxed to use Blowup for the player to learn it.

Grenades are capturable, which gives the player access to Chill and other Bomb abilities. Even in the hands of the player, Chill is a useful skill that heals and damages at the same time. Despite dealing ice damage to the caster, Chill will always heal the Morpher even when they don't wear ice-absorbent equipment.
