Ghido's cave is a location in Final Fantasy V in both Galuf's world and the merged world. It is home to Ghido the sage.

History[]

Ghido's Cave Entrance

Exdeath sinking the island.

As Ghido has lived for over 700 years prior to the events of Final Fantasy V,[1] it can be presumed that his cave is also centuries old.

Sage Ghido called out to Krile Mayer Baldesion, who urged Bartz Klauser and the party to find him to learn how to defeat Exdeath.[1] However, upon arrival, sank the island where Ghido lived before the heroes had a chance to meet him. They managed to return it after acquiring the submarine from Xezat Matias Surgate.

Entering the underwater cave, the party found Ghido. Ghido took a disliking to Bartz for being slow, and because Bartz thought Ghido was a harmless turtle before realizing who he was. Nonetheless, Ghido explained about Exdeath's origin and the party's next move: to head for the Great Forest of Moore, Exdeath's "birthplace".[2]

Later, after Exdeath merged the two worlds, Ghido's Cave returned to above the water level, where the Light Warriors found Ghido again. They were visited by Exdeath disguised as a splinter, who fought the elder turtle. The combat ended with a draw and Ghido and the Warriors were teleported to the Library of the Ancients.[3]

Geography[]

In Galuf's world, Ghido's cave is located on a small, forested, mountainous island in the middle of the ocean, before being sunk to the bottom. The cave itself is within a mountain, with a wooden bridge used to reach the cave entrance. In the merged world, rather than being a separate island, the mountain in which Ghido's cave is located is on the eastern side of a larger continent.

Ghido's cave is a mostly water-filled cave that is home to a few monsters. Aside from Ghido himself, at least one other turtle is seen as an inhabitant of the cave, though the other turtle does not demonstrate sentience as Ghido does.

Gameplay[]

If the player lands their airship or wind drake right above the cave, it results in the Airship and Hiryuu glitch.

Quests[]

Ghido's Cave is first visited very briefly after obtaining the wind drake from Castle of Bal, but will sink after the player arrives. It is later returned to after obtaining the submarine from Xezat, at which point it is a dungeon. During the dungeon, the party benefits from bringing a Blue Mage, who can learn Aeroga from the Metamorph in Ghido's Cave (uses it in Enchanted Fan form).

Ghido's Cave is visited again in the merged world, where it is above ground once again, for a story scene.

Musical themes[]

The background theme that plays at Ghido's Cave is called "Beyond the Great Blue Seas".

The background theme that plays in the outer parts of Ghido's Cave is "Four Hearts", the world map theme of Bartz's world.
