The Soldier (ソルジャー, Sorujā?), also known as SOLDIER and sometimes abbreviated as SLD, is a recurring job class in the Final Fantasy series, often appearing in the tactical role-playing titles. It is a physical attack job that utilizes swords to perform powerful melee attacks, while also commonly having the ability to lower enemy stats.
Notable Soldiers are Cloud Strife of Final Fantasy VII, Marche Radiuju of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and Luso of Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift.
This class is not to be confused with SOLDIER, Shinra's elite army from Final Fantasy VII.

Soldiers often use swords and greatswords while having the ability to equip either light and heavy armor. Notable weapons used by Soldiers are the Buster Sword and the Hardedge.
The Soldier's name was initially a reference to the group of supersoldiers from Final Fantasy VII, being the job of Cloud Strife for his Final Fantasy Tactics appearance.
The Soldier's fighting style varies between each installment. The job's original appearance in Final Fantasy Tactics was heavily based on Cloud's skillset from Final Fantasy VII, with a majority of the abilities being his Limit Break attacks. In future installments taking place in the setting of Ivalice, the Soldier class is similar to recurring the Warrior and Knight job classes, with abilities that focus mostly on disabling human foes. Later spin-off titles, such as War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, would have Soldiers use greatswords and a variety of techniques that deal heavy damage to their foes.

Soldier is a novelty job exclusive to Cloud. Its abilities involve dealing heavy damage to a single foe, based on Cloud's Limit Breaks from Final Fantasy VII, except Cherry Blossom, which is new. It costs 6,730 JP to master.
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance[]
Marche from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance utilizes Soldier as his default job.
Soldier (SLD) is a job exclusive to humes. The Soldier is the basic melee unit of the humes, with great HP and Attack growth, but low Magic and Speed. Soldiers can use their Battle Techs to heal themselves, or alter the stats of their opponents. Soldiers are only useful in the beginning of the game, as they quickly become outclassed by the more advanced jobs. Marche and a fellow hume clan member start out as Soldiers.
Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift[]
Soldier is the default job of humes, and the main job of Luso. Soldiers use "breaks" to inflict statuses on enemies. A soldier is a basic tank with good Defense, power, and the best HP growth of any hume class.
Final Fantasy Tactics S[]
The Soldier appeared as a Hume job unit. There were several Soldier units that had access to a specific Break-type abilities, while also having several supportive moves that could aid the party in combat.
In addition, the characters David, Samuel, and Cedric were unique Soldier units that could be obtained through the game's draw system.
Crystal Defenders[]
Though combat range is limited, Soldiers have exceptionally high attack power. They cannot attack aerial targets.

The Soldier (N) was a normal rank card that could be obtained. It had an ATK of 300, with a DEF of 150. It cost 5 points to use in battle.
Final Fantasy Record Keeper[]
SOLDIER is the job of Cloud, Sephiroth, Zack, Angeal, and Genesis.
All SOLDIER characters can naturally use high leveled Combat abilities. Each character also has specific secondary ability types for combat, Cloud using Samurai and Heavy abilities, Zack using Celerity, Sephiroth being proficient in Samurai and Darkness, Angeal utilizing Knight and Heavy, and Genesis using Spellblade and Darkness.
While Marche appears as a unit, his job is Young Adventurer (優しい兄, Yasashi Ani?, lit. Kind Older Brother) and his moveset is heavily inspired by the Paladin job from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.
War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius[]
The Soldier appears as the unique job of the winter version of Ramada, Schuzelt, and Sterne Leonis. The job gives a character access to the Soldier command set, having access to several hard hitting sword attacks and stances to increase their physical attack power, but at the expense of sacrificing a portion of their HP.
Characters with access to the Soldier as a secondary job include Aileen, Cecil, Delita Heiral, Gilgamesh, Kitone, Luartha, Lilyth, Robb Hourne, Velric, Viktora, and Vistralle.
Cloud has a unique version of the Soldier known as "SOLDIER (FFVIIR)", which has access to several of his abilities from the Final Fantasy VII Remake.

SOLDIER 1st Class[]
A unique variant of the Soldier job appears in both Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and Mobius Final Fantasy, known as SOLDIER 1st Class (ソルジャー1st, Sorujā Fāsuto?, lit. Soldier 1st). SOLDIER 1st Class is a DLC garb available to Lightning in the former, while Mobius Final Fantasy had it available as an extremely rare job for Wol that could only be obtained from the game's summon draw.
This version of the job is loosely based on Cloud's fighting style and Limit Break moveset from the original Final Fantasy VII. In addition, both jobs allow the user to wield the unique Buster Sword weapon.
