Halone, the Fury, is one of the Twelve in Final Fantasy XIV. She is mover of glaciers and goddess of war, commands the element of ice and is tied to the First Astral Moon (first month). She is depicted as a relentless warrior holding a bronze greatshield, and her symbol is three spears. Halone is daughter of Rhalgr and younger sister of Byregot, and is bitter rivals with Nophica. She is the patron of the Holy See of Ishgard.[1]
History[]
Creation myth[]
When the Whorl awoke from its slumber and beckoned forth Byregot and Halone, it was feared that the untamed and ambitious siblings might once again usher chaos unto the world. So to see that they were properly disciplined, Nymeia quickly made them wards of Rhalgr, the Destroyer.[2]
Oschon invited Halone on one of his journeys. During the travels Halone's ambition slowly transformed into a lust for battle. While on the road, she challenged every creature She met, honing Her skills and methodically devising new techniques for killing. When Nophica, mother of life, learned of Halone's wanton destruction of Her creations, she was angered beyond words and swore revenge. Oschon, feeling responsible for this rift, devised a plan to calm Nophica. From within the mountains of His creation, Oschon summoned a fount of magma that spewed forth onto the land. Upon cooling, the magma took form of the Twelfth and final god—the dual aspected Nald'thal. With Nald'thal, Oschon had provided a god to oversee the souls of those who met their deaths and provide them with peace in the afterlife. Satisfied that Her creations would no longer wander the void aimlessly, Nophica agreed to a truce with Halone.[2]
When the Twelve considered their work in Eorzea complete, they proceeded to create a realm in which they could reside and watch over their creation, thus leaving the rule of Eorzea to mankind. This realm is known as the seven heavens that were associated with each of the six elements. In the center of the Heaven of Ice rises a lofty palace of ice carved by the Fury's own spear from the ice formed of moonbeams collected by Menphina. Here reside epic heroes and gallant knights, the benevolent and the faithful. From Halone's gelid palace do piercing icicles plummet to the Pit, creating the Hell of Ice. Here suffer cowards, deserters, and adulterers. This Heaven is represented in Sharlayan astrology by the constellation of the Spear.[3][4]
Eorzean worship[]
Halone is the goddess governs glaciers and goddess of war. The fervent worship of Halone and the teachings of the Enchiridion, the holy scripture of the church, are at the core of Ishgardian society. Although members of the Ishgardian church will readily acknowledge the existence of the other eleven deities of the pantheon, they firmly believe that the power of all other gods is eclipsed by the might of the Fury.[5]
In year 360 when the Elezen, forced north into Abalathia's Spine by Hyuran expansion, began the standardization of their faith with the construction of a temple to Halone in the highlands of Coerthas. The settlers' decision to adopt the Fury as a patron deity was likely influenced to no small degree by the ever-present threat of hostile dragons.[6] As their population swelled and their settlements expanded, so too did their centers of worship. The clergy recognized the need for more structure, and perhaps an organization that could standardize the teachings of the faith: namely, the Ishgardian Orthodox Church.[7]
In year 370, the tragedy of Saint Shiva and the great wyrm Hraesvelgr prompted a truce between Elezen and dragon, and for the next several generations, the church's teachings centered upon the principles of peaceful coexistence. This harmony was shattered in the year 545 with King Thordan's heinous betrayal of the First Brood, and his subsequent death. Bereft of a monarch, the remaining knights twelve colluded with the high-ranking clergy to elevate Reymanaud I to the position of archbishop, and confer upon him the powers of the throne. They then proceeded to fabricate and disseminate a history which concealed the wrongdoings of the past, and supported the creation of the type of bureaucracy necessary to govern a nation at constant war. Ultimately, the corruption of the faith's core precepts was simply a means to paint the Dravanian Horde as villains, and lend a holy legitimacy to the atrocities of the Dragonsong War.[6]
The primary mission of the Ishgardian Orthodox Church is to 'spread the teachings of Halone and to glory in Her works'. To that end, the Holy See promotes a comprehensive, and officially sanctioned historical education, and any accounts which contradict these established facts are considered heretical.[7] The Ishgardian Orthodox Church take the teachings of Halone very seriously, to the point that the church and state have become inseparable. They go as far as calling those who do not follow the Fury 'unbelievers', and those who are found to have communicated with the Dravanians, are branded as heretics and in some cases executed.[8]
The leader of the Ishgardian Orthodox Church, the archbishop, presides over Ishgard from the Vault, which functions as both the center of the church and of the government. There he determines major public policy, which is then carried out by senior officials in various dicasteries, as well as the Temple Knights and the inquisition. Additionally, there are two unique groups to whom the archbishop may turn should the need arise. The Synod, a council comprised of seven bishops of Saint Reymanaud's Cathedral, serves to advise His Eminence on matters of policy. The Heavens' Ward, on the other hand, is a select group comprised of twelve handpicked knights who serve as his personal guard.[7]
Halone has three saints canonized by the Council of Loetstym. The first is Saint Daniffen, a knight who defeated a basilisk by blindfolding himself to prevent from being petrified by the creature. The second is Saint Endalim, an Archbishop who mediated and prevented a revolt not as a ruler, but as a man of the people. The third is Saint Finnea, a knight possessed a spirit incapable of conceding defeat and she inspired many other knights to hold their ground where they would have otherwise given up.[9] The Ishgardian Orthodox Church has also canonized several other saints, among the most notable are: Saint Thordan, the founder of Ishgard. Saint Reymanaud, the first archbishop. Saint Reinette, a former Azure Dragoon. Saint Valeroyant, an Azure Dragoon who repelled a Nidhogg attack. Saint Guenriol, the founder of the Athenaeum Astrologicum and the one who confirmed the connection between the coruscations of the Dragonstar and the movement of the Dravanians.
In preparation for the Seventh Umbral Calamity, the archon Louisoix Leveilleur carved the symbols of the Twelve across Eorzea and encouraged adventurers to pilgrimage and pray to the Twelve. When the Calamity arrived, Louisoix used the accumulated aether from the prayers to summon a primal manifestation of the Twelve in an attempt to defend the realm from the elder primal Bahamut.[10][11]

Halone's true appearance is that of a fair-skinned woman styled like a valkyrie dressed in a billowing white and blue robe with gold armor, her most striking feature being her large mane of hair that reaches her feet and covering much of her rear outline. Much like her depictions in folklore, she wields a spear and shield in battle, the shield in particular being able a mechanical device that can reconfigure into a greatsword.
Her disguise form is a small frostpup.
Personality[]
Befitting her title as the Fury, Halone is stern and imposing warrior. During her fight with the Warrior of Light, she exhibits her love for battle to the point of wanting to lose herself in the fight even when losing. As Menphina points out, Halone's imposing air seems to have been affected somewhat due to the fervent prayer exhibited by Ishgard for her. Halone and Nophica are very good to Menphina as they look out for her, and the gods think of her as their youngest sister.
Gameplay[]
After creating a character and choosing a birth date, players must align to one of the twelve deities. Originally, this slightly raised the character's elemental resistances based on the element of the chosen deity. As of Patch 4.2, elemental resistance stats were removed, leaving this decision with no in game effect.

The "Living on a Prayer" quest in version 1.0 required the player to visit all the Twelve symbols throughout Eorzea. Once completed this rewarded with the ring of one of the Twelve, this included the 
Halone's Ring. Although the original quest was removed with the relaunch of the game, in patch 2.45 the quest 
The Ties That Bind was added, which repeats the same pilgrimage through the marks of the Twelve. The mark of Halone is located at the Fury's Gaze in Coerthas Central Highlands. Prior to the Calamity, it could be found in a place by the same name in the Twinpools area of Coerthas.
The Gladiator has a weaponskill named 
Rage of Halone, which is the final part of their combo. The Astrologian card 
The Spear represents the Heaven of Ice, the card artwork describes Halone in her palace of ice, in the background you can see the moonbeams next to Mephina's mark.
The Trials of the Fury was an Exploratory Mission in 
The Diadem released in patch 3.55b and removed in patch 5.1. It were designed to be fought as disciples of war or magic. However, players could still change to gathering classes once the mission objectives were completed. Mission objectives were set randomly upon entering the Diadem.
The Fury's Anthem was an item added in patch 2.1 that invoked the hand of Halone, turning back time and resetting any PvP actions learned. In Patch 2.28, a Default button was added to the PvP Profile window under Actions & Traits. This button reset all enhancements for PvP actions and traits. This made The Fury's Anthem useless and it lost its effect.
Behind the scenes[]
The archbishop's staff is called The Fury's Grace. It is the symbol of the leader of the Ishgardian Orthodox Church and sovereign of the Holy See, this holy crozier has been handed down to each archbishop. Embedded in its center is a rare sapphire of ultramarine hue, known as the Frozen Tear. The staff was so named for the legend that it was bestowed upon Archbishop Reymanaud I by a divine messenger of Halone.[12]
Orthodox cathedrals are not considered complete without at least one towering statue of Halone, girt for battle. A notable sculpture of Halone, is consecrated at Saint Guenriol's Chapel deep inside the Dusk Vigil, within whose helm is set a priceless sapphire known as an ice rondel. Gallant warriors who fell in the holy war against the Dravanians were believed to enter the gates of the Fury's palace, and receive warm welcome in Her icy halls.[7][6]
Ishgardian scripture teaches that a millennium ago, when the Ishgardians forebears resided in the southern plains in humble circumstances. The Fury, impressed by they spirit, decided it was meet that She make them Her own. So did She appear before Thordan, and bade him lead Her people to the Promised Land in Coerthas.[13] Ishgardian scripture also states that only those who have been judged worthy in the eyes of Halone are granted safe passage into Ishgard as children of the faith.[14]
The Fury's Gaze is a place holy to all Ishgardians, it is believed that when a man stands within this hidden grotto, the Fury Herself will reach deep into the darkest recesses of his soul and lay out his sins before him, allowing the man to repent those failings.[15] The Camp Dragonhead name is taken from a rocky outcropping said to be the head of a Dravanian king turned to stone by the almighty hand of Halone.[16] The Fury's Mercy is one of the mighty ballistas protecting Ishgard, the Fury's Mercy is said to strike its target with a force so great that it dies instantly, and thus feels no pain.[14] The Hoplon is the largest plaza in Ishgard, the Hoplon takes its name from the bronze shield borne by Halone.[17] Is described in the Enchiridion, to ensure the realm of man did not drift apart from the firmament, Halone struck the Nail through both, ever binding the two.[18]
The Enchiridion states that the cloudkin known as the Bird of Paradise is the gatekeeper to Halone's heavenly realm. In actuality, it is a ruthless killer with an insatiable appetite for flesh of any kind, from paissa to man.[19]
Halone Gerbera is a flowering plant said to be beloved of the goddess. The Furymint is named after Halone due to its spear-shaped leaves. The Hoplite's shell resemble Halone's fabled shield. The shells of Coerthan Oyster mollusk are so impenetrable that local fishers have dubbed them 'the Fury's shields'. The Endoceras is an wavekin with a body like a lance and a temper like the Fury's. The Striped Goby is a freshwater fish native to Coerthas and Mor Dhona regions. Coerthan legend states that the striped goby was not always a fish, but once a brightly plumed bird cast to the bottom of the seas by the Fury for flying too near Her realm. The Ice Faerie is a tiny 'winged' slug commonly found in ice-ridden freshwater lakes. Despite its angelic appearance, it is a ferocious predator which uses a circle of razor-sharp teeth to slice up its prey as it swallows it whole. This furious display has resulted in a second name, Halone.
Heavensturn is a celebration that marks twelve passages of the moon in the night sky, and with them, the vigil of each of the Twelve over the realm. Each year one of the Twelves is chosen to oversee the coming year. Halone was chosen at Heavensturn in 2011 and 2023. While in the Far East, noble beasts take the place of the Twelve, with a rabbit being chosen in those years.[20][21]
The Twelve's Fending and Maiming gears sold at Wolves' Den Pier for Wolf Marks are inspired by Halone.
