Takes enemy's items away and evades attacks

Description

The Thief is available to humes and moogles as a basic job in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Thief is one of the most useful jobs because of its ability to steal any piece of equipment, or even JP and abilities. To take full advantage of this, players can examine every piece of equipment the opponents have before starting an engagement. Thieves are balanced with favorable stats, but it is best to do not rely on their growth too much. Ninjas and Hunters have better stat growth and can therefore benefit from the Thief's abilities.

Growth[]

Thief is the only class whose Evade differs depending on race, with moogles having 5 more base evasion than humes.

Hume[]

Hume Thieves have average stat growth. They have balanced but mediocre stats all around, with the only notable exception being their slightly elevated Speed. One should refrain from leveling up as a Thief, as there are better options for stat growth.

Moogle[]

The moogle Thief is balanced but mediocre, similar to the hume Thief. Their only exceptional stat is their speed, which is the highest out of all moogle classes. One should refrain from leveling up as a Thief, as there are better options for stat growth.

Overview[]

FFTA Steal Armor

Steal: Armor.

The swift and elusive Thief is a basic class requiring no effort to unlock. The moogle Thief has the highest speed growth for a moogle. Thief has various stealing abilities that are highly exploitable. Steal: Exp can be used for level grinding. Steal: Weapon and Steal: Armor are valuable as there is a lot of top notch equipment found in the hands of enemies that are not easily obtained anywhere else. Thief is the first class to learn the reaction ability Counter. Thief has the highest evasion, surpassing even the Ninja and the Juggler.

The Thief is ill-suited for combat for its low HP and Atk. Most knives have unimpressive attack power, although some of the best ones can deal decent damage. Even the Thief's speed, while high, is beat by jobs with better physical stats. Steal: Weapon, Steal: Armor, and Steal: Ability are hard to come by, limiting the Thief's usefulness. Though the Thief rarely gets hit any half decent attacker will deal at least a considerable amount of damage to them.

Overall, the Thief is a recommended class for stealing rather than fighting. Although its stats are mostly unremarkable, the stealing capabilities warrant having one and maybe equipping the stealing abilities on another class.

Against enemy Thieves frontal attacks or reduced accuracy abilities are often futile. Their capability to steal will prove an annoyance. Thieves are fast, and thus it is a struggle for most units to outpace them. Ranged units can handle them nicely as long as they maintain distance. Mages can deal remarkable damage, but escape is nigh impossible should they put themselves into a Thief's range. Melee combat units, like Gladiators, Paladins, and Dragoons, are prime counters to thieves as they take barely any damage from knives. Thieves are not lethal, but their stealing makes them a high priority target.
