The Pyramid of Moore, also known as just Pyramid, is a location in Final Fantasy V from Bartz's world, accessible only in the merged world. Located amidst the Desert of Shifting Sands, it houses one of the tablets needed to unseal the twelve legendary weapons in the Sealed Castle, as well as plenty of valuable treasure.

History[]

Because the Pyramid of Moore is mentioned in the Sealed Tome as a holding place for a tablet,[1] it can be presumed that it predates the world's being split, which would make it over a thousand years old when visited in Final Fantasy V.[2] It does not appear to have been visited any time since.

When the worlds split, the Pyramid of Moore remained in Bartz's world in the Desert of Shifting Sands. When Exdeath merged the worlds, the Pyramid and the surrounding desert were situated midway between the town of Moore and the Guardian Tree. This would mean they occupied the space once occupied by the Great Forest of Moore, though aside from sharing a name, it is unknown if it has any prior connection to the two.

In Final Fantasy V, at Sage Ghido's direction, Bartz Klauser, Krile Mayer Baldesion, and Faris Scherwiz entered the pyramid, the surrounding desert no longer shifting sands with the earth crystal shattered. The three defeating two gargoyles guarding the entrance to enter the pyramid. At the deepest chamber, they found their first tablet, unleashing Bahamut in the process. Atop the pyramid, Bahamut challenged them to face him atop the North Mountain.[3]

After Neo Exdeath was been vanquished, the four crystals were restored, and the earth crystal was placed in the Pyramid of Moore.

Geography[]

Moore Pyramid sprite. The Pyramid of Moore is a step pyramid that strongly resembles those of Ancient Egypt. It is located in the center of the Desert of Shifting Sands, which is located around the middle of the western continent of Bartz's world and the merged world. A few cacti mark the entrance.

Inside, the Pyramid of Moore maintains ancient Egyptian architecture, with Egyptian hieroglyphs etched into some of the walls, as well as gold coffins holding mummies. Many traps are found throughout the pyramid, including poisonous spikes harming intruders, pitfalls, as well as some walls that hold snakes released to attack intruders. As well as snakes, the pyramid is also patrolled by robots named Mecha Heads, and a minotaur named Sekhmet.

Quests[]

In Bartz's world, the Pyramid of Moore can be seen when passing through the Desert of Shifting Sands, but it cannot be entered.

In the merged world, the Pyramid of Moore is visited after returning to the Library of the Ancients (with a short stop at the Guardian Tree along the way). Lenna is absent, meaning only three party members can be used for the pyramid dungeon; however, this is the last dungeon in which there are fewer than four party members, and the pyramid has no boss after fighting two Gargoyle enemies to enter. Both Gargoyles should be defeated at once to gain access.

The walking through walls glitch can be performed here.

Musical themes[]

"Slumber of the Ancient Earth" from Final Fantasy V

The background theme that plays at the Pyramid of Moore is called "Slumber of the Ancient Earth". The theme is also included on the Final Fantasy V: Dear Friends album, as a version that mixes both synthesizers and real instruments. This version is called "Intention of the Earth".
