Caterchipillar is an enemy from Final Fantasy VIII. It is an insect-type enemy and one of the first the player is likely to meet as they roam outside Balamb Garden. During the Balamb Garden Revolt event, Caterchipillars appear within the Garden building and one is summoned by a Garden Faculty at the dorm if the player tries to enter while having declared they are aligned with Headmaster Cid.

Its head is small and red located below its "stinger", while the "mouth" appears to be in the tail.

Stats[]

Battle[]

Caterchipillars tend to team up with Bite Bugs. When 50% of its HP is depleted, there is a possibility it will use Ultra Waves and Sticky Web. Ultra Waves can inflict Berserk on party members along with some non-elemental magic damage.

Caterchipillars lack strength, but like to embed their opponents in a Sticky Web to varying effect. Caterchipillar lv20–lv29 can inflict Slow to one opponent with Sticky Web, while Caterchipillars lv30+ can inflict Stop.

The Spider Web they drop teaches Quistis a new Blue Magic spell: Ultra Waves (her version does not inflict Berserk).

Strategy[]

The player can draw Fire from a Bite Bug and cast it on the Caterchipillar for double damage, although draw-casting magic tends to be weaker than magic cast with the Magic command. After getting Ifrit, the party can summon him and use his Elem-Atk-J to deal elemental damage to opponents.

Triple Triad[]

TTCaterchipillar

Caterchipillar is a Triple Triad card. It is a basic Level 1 Monster Card that turns into a Spider Web with Quezacotl's Card Mod, useful to further refine into Slow spells.

Etymology[]

Kedachiku is (クチ)()() (kuchidake?, lit. just a mouth) backwards. This refers to the enemy's true head being at its front, while the mouth on the back is "just a mouth". chiku (チク?) is also a Japanese onomatopoeic word for pricking or stinging.
