Pyroblast (プチフレア, Puchi Furea?, lit. Mini Flare), also known as Pyro, Flare, ltFlare, Mini Flare, Fireburst, and Light Flare, is a recurring spell in the Final Fantasy series. It is one of two common Twincast abilities, the other being Comet, and deals high Fire-elemental or non-elemental damage to all enemies.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy IV[]

Pyroblast is one of two Twincast abilities used by Palom and Porom in the 2D versions, and it deals moderate non-elemental damage to all enemies at the cost of 10 MP for both characters. In the 3D remakes, this is changed to deal moderate Fire-elemental damage to all enemies at the cost of 30 MP, and it can be used by any two characters that have the Twincast augment on them. The spell is classified as a black magic spell in the 3D remake.

Etymology[]

Pyro comes from the Greek word πυρ (pyr) meaning "fire".

Puchi (プチ?) is a French loan word in Japanese, from petit, meaning "petite", "small", or "mini".

A flare is a pyrotechnical phenomenon that produces intense amounts of heat and energy that does not result in an explosion (an immediate release of energy).
