Manticore (マンティコア, Mantikoa?), also known as Manticor and Mantcore, is a recurring enemy in the Final Fantasy series.

Manticore is an enemy fought at the Flying Fortress and on the overworld near Onrac, generally appearing in groups of four. They attack with their special, Poison Darts, and with regular physical attacks.

Manticore is an enemy fought at Subterranean Lake, attacking with Blizzard and their regular attack which can inflict Petrify, making them dangerous foes in the 3D versions. They are otherwise not difficult foes to defeat.

Etymology[]

The manticore is a Persian legendary creature similar to the Egyptian sphinx. It has the body of a lion, the head of a human, and the tail of a scorpion. The name means "man eater".
