Final Fantasy weapons

This is a list of the weapons found in the original Final Fantasy, including the Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls, 20th Anniversary and subsequent versions.

All weapons suffer from the critical hit bug where the game loads the weapon's index number when calculating critical hit rate, rather than the critical hit value. This seems to have been intentionally retained in all following re-releases of the game, and so is perhaps no longer considered a bug.

Prices

In the Origins release for the PlayStation, an Easy mode was introduced and the player was allowed to choose difficulty. In Easy mode, weapon prices are generally lower. Prior to the Origins release, all releases used the Normal prices. After the Origins release, all releases use the Easy prices.

Unless otherwise noted as a footnote, all weapons sell for approximately half their purchase price. All weapons introduced in Dawn of Souls and subsequent releases sell for 100 gil, even those available for purchase.

Item magic

Some weapons cast spells when used in the inventory with the Item command. Item magic does not cost spell charges or MP.

In all versions of the game, up to and including Pixel Remaster, the critical hit chance used during battle is not the critical hit value for each individual weapon, but instead their weapon index number.

In the NES version, the enemy type and elemental advantage effects of certain weapons are not applied (e.g., the Wyrmkiller does not actually deal more damage vs. Dragons).
