FFXIV Feint

Feint in Final Fantasy XIV.

Trick your foes into thinking you're attacking, leaping away instead. Lowers evasion, mobility, and elemental resistances.
—Description, Final Fantasy Explorers.

Feint (フェイント, Feinto?) is a recurring ability in the series.

AppearancesEdit

Final Fantasy XIEdit

XI Feint is a Merit ability, only available to players at level 75, specifically those playing as Thieves. When used, the player's next attack will decrease the target's evasion by a significant amount, often enough to make a target that is otherwise near impossible to hit a lot more easier to hit (a difference in game of -40 evasion or more). It may be recast every 10 minutes, with further Merit upgrades decreasing the recast time. The decrease in evasion will last on the target creature for 30 seconds.

EtymologyEdit

Feint is a French term that entered English via the discipline of swordsmanship and fencing. Feints are maneuvers designed to distract or mislead, done by giving the impression that a certain maneuver will take place, while in fact another, or even none, will.
