Event Music Sequence, commonly abbreviated EMS, is a gameplay term in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call. It is one of the three types of gameplay alongside Battle Music Sequence and Field Music Sequence.
A golden cursor appears and moves along a path that appears before the cursor. Notes appear on this path and the player must tap the screen in time with the cursor lining up with the notes. Missing a note results in damage being taken. The speed of the cursor varies during EMS, and the path is always predetermined, but has no impact on gameplay. With only a few exceptions, equipped abilities and items have no effect on the player's performance in EMS. During EMS, scenes from the game the song is from play in the background. These have no effect on gameplay at all.
The Feature Zone for EMS always occurs at the end of the stage. The player must hit all silver notes in order to reach the "true" end of the stage, where the song continues and the background scenes shift, usually to scenes from the end of the game. Failure to activate feature zone will result in the song ending prematurely and the player receiving a lesser score.
