Elementaga is a magic ability for Lightning in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, serving as the final upgrade of the Element spell. It deals heavy magic damage of all four elements—fire, ice, wind and lightning. It is one of the strongest spells in the game.

Obtained[]

Elementaga is a guaranteed drop from Bhunivelze and Bhunivelze+ on Hard Mode. In order to obtain it from the default version of the final boss, players must not complete the Ultimate Lair on any plathrough and clear the game on Hard Mode. The rematch version of the boss will not drop the ability.

Mechanics[]

When used, Lightning thrusts her weapon into the ground, summoning several pillars of fire to explode on the field, dealing magic damage of all elements to all targets. Unlike the previous Element spells, Elementaga functions similarly to the tier four elemental spells, meaning the less HP Lightning has, the more powerful the attack becomes.

Its potency is determined by the following:

  • Lightning's current HP versus max HP.
  • The enemy's element resistance.
  • Spell's damage modifier (10.00-28.00).

By default, Elementaga Lv. 1 has an ATB cost of 100 and an attack power of 10.00, but lacks any Stagger Power and Time. When fully upgraded, Elementaga Lv. 5 at max has an ATB cost of 80 and an attack power of 60.00.

All versions of Bhunivelze also use the spell during the final phase of their respective fights, dealing massive multi-elemental magic damage to Lightning with a power of 20.

Passives

Elementaga abilities can have the following passives:

Normal
  • ATB Recovery +10
  • Maximum ATB +10
Rare
  • Vengeance Siphon (Rare Synthesis)

Use[]

To utilize Elementaga's full potential, it is best to boost Lightning's HP as much as possible through the use of a Head Accessory to widen the difference in HP's pool. During battle, the player should inflict Imperil on enemy to lower their element resistance. Equipping Sniper's Gloves and Enlister's Gloves as Arm Accessories is recommended to leverage the 20% bonus damage based on any distance between Lightning and enemy.

Other damage modifiers, like perfect timing and garb's passive ability, such as Sweet Spot (Danse Macabre) and Strike Back (Déjà Vu), can further augment the damage output of the spell. Elemental enhancement will increase the damage if the targeted enemy/enemies are weak to specific element by default or through stagger.

Due to its inability to stagger foes and its damage requirements, Elementaga is not an incredibly useful spell and serves as more of a trophy item, especially when -ra and -ga spells can easily stagger foes and unleash damage faster. In order to reach the final upgrade through ability synthesis, players must collect 720 copies of Elementaga Lv. 1. Due to the final boss only dropping the ability, it means the player can only obtain one per playthrough, making upgrading the spell to its highest potential a daunting task.

Etymology[]

Classical elements typically refer to ancient concepts similar to the modern states of matter: earth (solid), water (liquid), air (gas) and fire (plasma). Classical elements are the simplest form of existence, of everything in existence. Many philosophies and worldviews believe in classical elements.
