The Dragons' Den is a bonus dungeon in Final Fantasy VI in the Game Boy Advance and iOS/Android/Steam versions, located just north of the Dragon's Neck Coliseum on an island with a single tree. Access is given after defeating the eight legendary dragons. The player can find the ultimate equipment pieces here as well as the most powerful bosses guarding them.

The den has a variety of monsters and no single monster is found in every section; some can only be found in specific rooms. Most are unique to the Dragons' Den, though there are a number of enemies from Kefka's Tower and other locations. Excluding a handful of monster-in-a-box enemies and the dragons themselves, the monsters unique to the Dragons' Den give 5,000 experience upon defeat, but no AP.

Each dragon boss is stronger than before with higher stats, better attacks, and each has a unique "gimmick" to make the fight difficult. E.g. Ice Dragon mimics the Vector Lythos and attacks in a group of four, while Gold Dragon gains a Runic effect, absorbing all magic cast against it.

Areas Edit

The den requires three parties to traverse, which lets the player exploit the save point glitch. The save areas have red beams of light that allow the player to change party members between the three parties if all three are brought to the same room. This means the parties can often change paths and meet up. Thus, the player can explore the den with the same party and fight all eight legendary dragons with them, if they know the den well enough and are willing to backtrack.

The dungeon architecture changes several times, and various puzzles from previous dungeons—such as jumping on turtles to cross water or hopping over bridges—are repeated. The dungeon is mostly a series of caves, some with magma, but temple areas also appear.

Several areas are sealed off with magical barriers attuned to one of the eight legendary dragons. Defeating a dragon shatters the corresponding seals, and to access the den's deepest areas, all dragons must fall.

Earth Labyrinth is the first area of the dungeon. It is interconnected with several passage ways to the Burning Labyrinth.

Taking the left route leads to three openings to the Burning Labyrinth; one is opened by operating the switch above. The three passages are blocked until the Seal of Ice is broken. The left-most part contains two treasure chests and is entered from the Burning Labyrinth after breaking the Seal of Water.

Taking the right entrance leads to Ice Dragon's lair. The right cave leads to the Dragon Temple and is blocked with the Seal of Wind. The exit after the Ice Dragon also leads to the Burning Labyrinth.

When entering from the Burning Labyrinth after Storm Dragon, there is an entrance to a save point area: Shrine of Serenity. The party members can meet here by operating the switch to open a passage through a rock. The Seal of Earth blocks the entryway to the Flame Labyrinth and can be broken by defeating the Earth Dragon above.

The cave contains two switches operating the rocks leading to the other exits. Inner Eye Labyrinth is a puzzle cave area. The lower left exit leads to the Flame Labyrinth and the lower right one leads to the Grand Cavern. A Seal of Heaven blocks a path leading to a save point after which a Seal of Lightning blocks the entryway to the Kaiser's Breath. A Seal of Darkness blocks the opening leading to the Holy Palace.

To proceed, the party has to push a 4-ton weight over a switch, similar to Kefka's Tower. Then two parties can operate the remaining switches that control rocks through the lower and upper level of the cave. There are also two hidden chests on the lower left and right corners and a hidden switch near the lava that opens a pathway inside the Holy Temple.

Dragon Temple Edit

FFVIA Dragon Temple

Map (GBA).

Dragon Temple is a central area that connects to the Earth Labyrinth and hosts a turtle that can be used to cross a pond. After breaking the Seal of Lightning, the turtle can be used to reach the Grand Cavern. A skull switch after the turtle opens a door to Red Dragon's chamber in the Flame Labyrinth.

The upper central path is blocked by the Blue Dragon and contains a save point and an exit to Kaiser's Breath blocked by the Seal of Lightning after the dragon. To use the exit, the door has to be opened from the right side by another group.

The passage to the upper-left is blocked by the Seal of Fire and contains gravestone which hints about the location of the Inner Eye Labyrinth lava switch: "If ye would face a drake divine, search ye between the molten pools within the Inner Eye".

The upper right passage contains another gravestone with an inscription puzzle similar to the Darill's Tomb. The inscriptions FDRA INGO THEK GONS can be found from the right-most passage blocked by the Seal of Heaven. After the inscriptions there is chamber of the Gold Dragon. Carving THEK INGO FDRA GONS, "The King of Dragons", to the gravestone grants access to the Cloister part of the Dragon Temple.

Quests Edit

Defeating the dragons Edit

This quest takes the player through most parts of the dungeon.

Ice Dragon Edit

First task is to defeat the Ice Dragon, breaking three seals of ice near the entrance and granting access to the Burning Labyrinth.

Storm Dragon Edit

Using switches reveals rocks over lava in the Burning Labyrinth. By defeating the dragon, Seal of Wind breaks granting access to the Dragon Temple.

Blue Dragon Edit

Blue Dragon waits in the Dragon Temple and defeating it opens the Seals of Water in Burning Labyrinth, Flame Labyrinth and Grand Cavern.

Earth Dragon Edit

Defeating Earth Dragon in Earth Labyrinth opens the Seal of Earth in Earth Labyrinth granting access to the Flame Labyrinth.

Red Dragon Edit

Defeating Red Dragon opens two Seals of Fire located in Dragon Temple and Grand Cavern.

Skull Dragon Edit

Skull Dragon waits atop the Grand Cavern. Defeating it reveals a staircase to go around the green men and breaks the Seal of Darkness in the Inner Eye Labyrinth allowing access to the Holy Palace.

Holy Dragon Edit

Holy Dragon waits in the Holy Palace and the encounter requires using a switch in the Inner Eye Labyrinth. Defeating the dragon breaks the Seal of Heaven in the Dragon Temple.

Gold Dragon Edit

Gold Dragon can now be encountered in the Dragon Temple. Defeating it breaks the Seals of Lightning in Inner Eye Labyrinth, Dragon Temple and Grand Cavern. All the seals are now broken and the party can go around the turtle to ease access to the Grand Cavern.

Final puzzle Edit

To solve the final puzzle, it is first recommended to teleport back to the entrance and bring all three groups to the turtle in the Dragon Temple. One group should open the central door for another group to enter the right switch part of the Kaiser's Breath. The remaining two groups should head to the Inner Eye Labyrinth (through the Grand Cavern). One group is used to press a switch and send the other party to the left switch of the Kaiser's Breath. The last group should return to the Grand Cavern and go around it to reach the central switch of the Kaiser's Breath.

Kaiser Dragon Edit

Kaiser Dragon is the final enemy of the quest and defeating him lets the party pick up the Diabolos magicite. Touching the save point tile triggers a congratulations message from Kappa with an introduction to Soul Shrine and the player is returned to the airship. Completing the Dragons' Den earns the Master of Dragons achievement in the mobile/PC versions.

Raiding the Treasure Room Edit

This quest is a somewhat separate part of the Dragons' Den and can be done once the Seal of Heaven is broken and the inscription puzzle is solved. Two parties are needed to reach the end and three monster-in-a-box enemies (Plague, Neslug and Flan Princess) are encountered along the way.

Defeating Omega Weapon Edit

Returning to the Kaiser's Lair reveals Omega Weapon whose defeat earns the Congratulations! achievement in the mobile/PC versions. Since the seals have been broken, the player only has to solve the final puzzle to reach Omega Weapon.
