Dice de Chocobo is a video game originally released in 1999 for the PlayStation in the Chocobo Collection. It was later planned to be remade for the WonderSwan Color, but was cancelled, and it was finally remade for the Game Boy Advance in 2002 and given the title Chocobo Land: A Game of Dice.

Gameplay[]

The style of play for Chocobo Land is reminiscent of Monopoly or Itadaki Street. The player begins each match on Start, which is a round space with a rainbow-colored border. They are given a certain amount of Crystals and the option of buying creatures placing them on spaces to increase the value of that space, so when an opponent lands on it they must pay more CP. The first person to accumulate enough CP for the goal and return to the start point wins.

The player acts the role of Chocobo, who is trying to beat this board game world in order to return his friends and himself to the real world. From the overworld map, the player can select the region to play in. Each region has its own board design and opponent; as the player progresses through the game, they will face more (up to three) computer controlled opponents at a time. Replaying a region after completing it for the story earns the player more playing pieces.

Etymology[]

The name "chocobo" derives from a Japanese brand of chocolate malt ball by Morinaga, ChocoBall (チョコボール, Chokobōru?). The mascot for this product is Kyoro-chan (キョロちゃん?), a bird who says "kweh".

食う / くう / kuu is a rough way to say "eat", whose volitional casual form is 食え / くえ / kue ("let's scoff 'em down!"), leading to Kweh!
