Dancing Calbrena (踊る人形カルコブリーナ, Odoru Ningyō Karukoburīna?, lit. "Dancing Doll Calcobrena") is a theme from Final Fantasy IV, and is commonly associated with the characters Calca and Brina. It was composed by Nobuo Uematsu.
"Dancing Calbrena" plays during the entirety of the encounter between Cecil Harvey and his party and princess Luca's animated dolls, Calca and Brina. Upon the defeat of the dolls and their merge into Calcabrina, the theme is replaced by the game's boss battle theme. The theme also plays when Dr. Lugae is introduced, and is also replaced with the boss battle theme when he transforms into his final form and when the dancer in Mysidia does her dance.
The track was released as the 36th track of the Final Fantasy IV Original Sound Version as well as the Final Fantasy IV Official Soundtrack: Music from Final Fantasy Chronicles.
"Dancing Calbrena" was arranged by Kenichiro Fukui for the Nintendo DS release of Final Fantasy IV and its in-game appearances are the same as in previous releases. It was released as the twelfth track of the second disc of the Final Fantasy IV Original Soundtrack.
The theme appears in Final Fantasy IV's sequel during the fight against Calca and Brina, and Ultros. It is also played whenever the band "Mystic Waltz" or the Lustful Lali-Ho is used, or when battling the Quarto Puppet enemies. It is also played when Flan Princess uses the skill "Samba de Flan".
An arranged version of "Dancing Calbrena" by Yuzo Takahashi appears as the seventeenth track of the game's Chocobo to Mahou no Ehon Series Original Soundtrack. This version employs electric guitar and percussions, and are a bit more fast-paced than the carnival style theme of the original version.
Arrangement Album appearancesEdit
A violin arrange of "Dancing Calcobrena" by Máire Breatnach is included in this album of Celtic music-arranges of Final Fantasy IV themes. The theme is the eleventh track of the album.
