CursorIntroVII

The cursor explaining its presence to Cloud.

The cursor is an indicator in Final Fantasy games used to highlight menu options and battle targets. It usually appears as a closed, gloved hand pointing with the index finger to the right.

Some games deviate from the traditional design. Final Fantasy X uses a triangular arrow with a yellow glow, and Final Fantasy X-2 uses a yellow arrow. In the original Final Fantasy X announcement trailer, a standard glove cursor can be seen,[1] which heavily resembles the cursor that would eventually be used in Final Fantasy Type-0.

In Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, there are three types of cursors; a quill pen to point out locations in the World Map, a glowing bullet point, and a small sword.

Wind-up cursor1

In Final Fantasy XIV, the player can obtain a Wind-up Cursor as a minion. The minion guide description mentions that the white glove is actually the "Hand of Fate" that controls the actions of the characters from a dimension beyond the aether, referring to the player.

The finger cursor has also been used in other Square properties, such as Chrono Trigger, Rudora no Hihō, and Secret of Evermore. Romancing SaGa 2 and Romancing SaGa 3 feature a gauntlet instead of a white glove; the gesture is the same as the one from the Final Fantasy series. The cursor also appears in the Kingdom Hearts series.
