Added by Drake ClawfangCrossbows (自動弓, Jidouyumi?) are a type of weapon commonly used by Archers. Although typically more powerful than Bows, they fire in a direct line of sight rather than an arched trajectory of a bow, which can sometimes be a disadvantage.

Final Fantasy IVEdit
The first appearance of a Crossbow in the series. It is a low-ranked bow, increases Strength by 3, and can be used by several characters (except the DS version). However, it is no different from the other bows in the game, and is actually named Power Bow in later releases.
Final Fantasy VEdit
The Crossbow appears as a weapon that can be used by the Ranger job. It can inflict instant death. It is called the Killer Bow in the Advance version.
Final Fantasy VIEdit
Edgar is able to use the Auto Crossbow as part of his Tools command to attack all enemies. No other crossbows are seen used in the game, and none can be equipped as actual weapons.
Final Fantasy XIEdit
Added by SpiraCrossbows are one of the two major types of Marksman weapons (the other being guns). They seldom reach the same power of bows or guns, but there exists special "status bolts" which can inflict a variety of status ailments, making them useful in some circumstances.

Final Fantasy XIIEdit
Added by EspritduoCrossbows are long-range weapons which deal normal damage. They generally do not deal as much damage as bows and its accuracy can be badly affected by windy weather or low visibility, but they have the shortest recharge time of any ranged weapon. Bolts must be equipped in order to use crossbows.
The damage formula for crossbows is:

Due to the weight put on user's Strength stat recommended Crossbow users are Vaan, Balthier, and Basch.

Final Fantasy TacticsEdit
Archers are able to use crossbows in battle. They are one-handed weapons, usually with a range of four tiles and are unaffected by height. The main disadvantage of crossbows is that they cannot be fired over obstacles like regular bows can, so the target must be directly in front of the crossbow user with no obstacles in between in order for the target to be hit.

The Auto Crossbow makes an appearance as a piece of hand armor in Dissidia Final Fantasy.
Dissidia 012 Final FantasyEdit
Auto Crossbow returns as a level 100 Machine that provides +2,378 HP, +79 Bravery, +15% Physical Damage, and +5% Accessory Breakability. It can be obtained by trading 137,100 gil, three Mallets, Gear Collection, and five Gunner's Hopes.
