Code-Crimson-Choice-Type-0-HD

The player is given a choice to do a Code Crimson mission.

You see, there are any number of unpleasant jobs in this world that are necessary to our progress as a nation. Some might criticize this work as 'immoral' or 'dirty,' but someone has to do it, darling. And that's why I've come to you. I trust you twelve implicitly—and I'm sure that you would be more than willing to do a favor to your dear mother, no? Of course, you are not obligated to undertake these covert operations. The choice is yours whether you join the 'official' sortie or assist Intel. I trust you darlings will make the right decision. Now go out there and make your mother proud.

Code Crimson is a mission classification in Final Fantasy Type-0 unlocked in a New Game Plus playthrough; they always have a higher experience cap than the primary missions or standard missions beyond Expert Trial. These missions provide an alternate option to the closing primary mission of each chapter. Each mission reveals key details about the world, the war, and the measures taken by the Dominion of Rubrum to achieve victory.

Content[]

When playing through the main story, Code Crimson missions can be substituted for the last mission of each chapter. Code Crimson missions are never regional dominance missions. When the player gets near the site of the mission, or talks to the person starting it, they will be provided a choice whether to do the original mission or the Code Crimson mission.

When a Code Crimson mission is selected, any available members of Class Zero can be assigned with two exceptions (The Last Line of Defense and Machina's Struggle). In the context of story, any members of Class Zero not seen in main mission cutscenes can or will appear in Code Crimson cutscenes; for example at Togoreth, Machina Kunagiri and Rem Tokimiya both appear in the Code Crimson mission, while they play no storyline part in the main mission.

Story[]

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. (Skip section)

Covert operations within Akademeia are first presented to Class Zero by their "mother", Arecia Al-Rashia. She tells them they are handled by Intel Section Four. While Arecia describes them as favors for her that others will not accomplish, the Class Ninth moogle describes them as "hand-me-downs" that Class Ninth students would not or could not accomplish.[1]

King has Moglin verify the queastor.

The first Code Crimson at Togoreth sees Class Zero cadets first infiltrate the stronghold to rescue civilians, only to find them killed due to the Militesi policy of never taking prisoners due to their own low food reserves. They are then told to retrieve classified documents on phantoma, activating the Guardians in the process and causing problems for their own forces who are amid battling the fortress. Class Zero eliminates all witnesses, including Rubrumite soldiers and scientists, aside from the phantoma researchers.

The next two Code Crimson missions see Class Zero first infiltrate a supply depot fueling the production of magitek in Ingram, then ostensibly help Militesi soldiers with rogue monsters while collecting intel for Akademeia; the latter mission ends with the cadets recalled to Ingram, in time to flee the capital following Queen Andoria's assassination. The fourth mission sees Class Zero sabotage the Concordian military command on the border to allow the Dominion easy passage. In the fifth, they are tasked with backing up an expendable ragtag group of cadets brought in by Akademia to ensure that the summoning of Alexander succeeds.

The last mission takes place during Class Zero's final battle with Qator Bashtar. Machina, now a l'Cie of the White Tiger Crystal, guides Tiz and Joker to Marshal Cid Aulstyne. Along the way, he fights Gilgamesh, revealing the latter's past as the king of the Lorican Alliance. Once the Dominion dominates Orience, Tempus Finis is invoked and the Rursus devastate the land. During the chaos, traitors within Akademia leak details of the Code Crimson missions. This turns many cadets against Class Zero, whom they blame for Tempus Finis.

On all playthroughs, the Vermilion Bird Crystal's offer for Class Zero to become a l'Cie is presented in the same manner as Code Crimson missions. Accepting the offer leads to an unwinnable battle with endless Rursus and thus directly to the bad ending.

Spoilers end here.
