Chobi

From Final Fantasy Wiki

Chobi (チョビ, Chobi) is a Chocobo encountered by Yu and Ai on their first trip into one of the Inner Worlds. Chobi acts as the comic relief of Final Fantasy: Unlimited.

[edit] Story

Chobi quickly befriended Yu and Ai when the former found a Chocobo feather which he wore as a hairpin. This enables him to understand Chobi. In the Japanese version, Yu named Chobi after chocolate bars; as he sings the "Chocobar" jingle. Ai is constantly annoyed by Chobi because the Chocobo loves to grab her by her hair and flail her around; this become a constant gag in the anime, and at an unusual time, saved the twins' lives.

Chobi as the Legendary Ciel

Chobi also acquired the taste for Dead Peppers, and after munching on some would usually go around screaming and breathing fire. Chobi later acquires a power-up when they arrived in the ancient Ciel ruins, becoming the Legendary Ciel, enabling him to fly in a flashy white suit of armor and gain extra strength. The animation for Chobi's transformation is quite showy, depicting him twisting about against a rainbow-colored background and then surging forward in his new armor suit. Chobi is only able to remain transformed for a brief period of time before resuming his normal form.

Around the time Chobi joins the Hayakawa twins, he was a collar around his neck. This necklace in turn is actually Cid's invention, Izabel, which determines the how long the Ghost Train remains in a certain location. However, Izabel somehow ended up in Oscha's hands, modifying it as a tracking device to keep tabs on the Hayakawa twins.
