—In-game Description

Cactoid is the Rank I Earth Ranged Esper in Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. Its only attack, 1000 Needles, deals damage to a single enemy. The green Cactoids are ally Yarhi, while the brown ones are enemy Yarhi. Despite its name, it bears more resemblance to a Cactite than a Cactoid.

Attributes Edit

Cactoid is one of the few Rank I Ranged Esper to have an astounding growth in Attack Speed, also the fact that is was and the only Ranged Esper to have the highest Attack Speed. Making its time between attacks to be 2.0 seconds till 1 second! It has always been the fastest Ranged Esper beating all of them.

Its total latency was 14, second to Cactoid (16) exceeds Sylph (12) and Shivan (11). Cactoid's basic attack, 1000 Needles attribute is physical, so it uses Attack stat instead. Its hit style is direct shot, which means that it hit and stop at any target that within the ranged attack's range.

Cactoids have the fastest Attack Speed Among all of the Esper Ranged Unit (Shiva is excluded for her normal attack, Triple Slap to attack three times in succession). Their attack form is Incoming, which means their shoots their 1000 Needles directly forward to the enemy. Very useful to attack an incoming Flying enemy approaching it.

Aside from Cactoid's significant in Attack Speed, their attacks can easily miss a fast moving unit. Their 1000 Needles attack actually travels in a direct straight line, it cannot curve or turn at all. Vaan can use Sprint to maneuver easily to dodge their attacks while Filo can always uses Glide to run from it's direction.

Etymology Edit

Sabotender (サボテンダー, Sabotendā?) is derived from mixing the Japanese word for cactus (サボテン, saboten?) and the English word "pretender" (プリテンダー, puritendā?).

Trivia Edit

  • Due to the Cactoids (originally and recurring named as Cactuars) in the game having their initial 1000 Needle as a normal attack, the damage done is not exactly 1000, but calculated similarly with any other units.
