The Buckler is tied for the weakest shield alongside Leather Shield. It provides +2 Defense and can be bought for 2,000 gil at Crescent Lake. Unlike the Leather Shield, which can only be used by the Warrior, Knight, and Ninja, the Buckler can be used by those jobs as well as the Thief, Red Mage, and Red Wizard.
The Buckler is the weakest shield, providing +16 Defense, +10 Magic Defense, and +10% Evade. It can be equipped by all characters except Umaro, and can be bought for 200 gil at South Figaro and Mobliz, or stolen from Unseelie. It is initially equipped on Terra, Edgar, and Cyan. The Ten Moogles are permanently equipped with a Buckler.
The Buckler is the second weakest shield, providing +13% Evade and +3% Magic Evade. It can be bought for 700 gil at Outfitters from the start of the game onwards, won from the battle at Zeklaus Desert, or found as a rare treasure on Lenalian Plateau.
One of the lighter shields. It is more efficient than the small shield, though it is used in the same manner. The buckler is most effective against single enemies in hand-to-hand combat. Due to its thin exterior, this shield is best used to push enemies until they drop their blades instead of guarding against their attacks. However, they aren't readily able to withstand the long range attacks of bows, the broad swings of large blades, or most magical attacks.
