The Blue Mage is a job in Final Fantasy V obtained after the Wind Crystal shatters. It is the first utility job in the game, providing both offensive and defensive capabilities. Unlike most other spellcasting jobs, Blue Mages are capable of wielding not only the common spellcaster equipment, but can also wield swords and shields as well, giving them both more offense and defense than a regular mage.

However, their Strength and Magic are below that of a regular mage or fighter job. It is a unique job in that in order to use any of its Blue Magic abilities, it must learn its spells from other enemies during battle. Of note, only one character needs to learn a Blue Magic spell in order for the rest of the party to use the same spell.

AppearanceEdit

Blue Mages have a vaguely "superhero" look in their appearance. Most of the costume is blue, with a cape and shoulder pads, a domino mask, and for Lenna and Krile, a feathered cap.

The Blue Mage's innate ability, Learning, is what makes the Blue Mage a Blue Mage. If one is going to hunt for Blue Magic, it is best to have a Beastmaster in the party. The Blue Mage need not live through the attack to learn it, so long as another member of the party finishes the battle alive. Of note, Blue Magic when equipped to a character gives the character base Freelancer Magic + 23.

Upon mastery, Freelancers gain a bonus to Agility, Stamina, and Magic Power, as well as having innate Learning without having to equip it.
