Blobra is an enemy from Final Fantasy VIII. It is the only Flan-type enemy in the game.

Stats[]

Battle[]

As with stereotypical flan, physical attacks deal minimal damage to Blobra. It holds most of the defensive status spells. Blobra's elemental weakness is different for each one that appears. The creature's elemental weakness depends on its level. Between levels 1–19 it can be weak against Fire, Ice, or Thunder; between 20–29 it can additionally be weak to Wind or Earth. Anything higher than level 30, its weakness can additionally be Holy or Poison. When hit with the right element, the spell or attack will deal seven times the normal damage.

A confused Blobra will cast a small variety of spells against the party. At low levels, they will cast Cure, Esuna, and Slow; mid level ones will cast Cura, Esuna, and Stop; and high level Blobra will cast Curaga, Esuna, and Stop.

Strategy[]

Inflicting Darkness can render a Blobra helpless: this is useful if other enemies are present, or if one wishes to stock up on magic. The player can scan it to find out its weakness and then use magic or GFs of that element to defeat it.

Triple Triad[]

Etymology[]

Its Japanese name is a combination of purin (プリン?) and nura (ぬら?). Purin (プリン?) is the Japanese word which refers to pudding, custard, or crème caramel. Nura (ぬら?) is an onomatopoeic phrase for something slimy.
