Black Belts in Final Fantasy III.

Black Belt (空手家, Karateka?, lit. Karate Practitioner) is a recurring job in the Final Fantasy series. It is often the upgrade to the Monk job.

Appearances[]

Final Fantasy III[]

The Black Belt is a job gained from the Water Crystal in the NES version, while it is gained from the Earth Crystal in the 3D versions. Black Belts are masters of combat, able to use only their fists for massive damage. They are capable of linking their mind and body to store energy for an upcoming strike. Black Belt is considered to be a powered up version of the Monk job and one of the most powerful jobs, dealing over 9999 damage even in the back row.

Etymology[]

In martial arts, the black belt is a way to describe a graduate of a field where a practitioner's level is often marked by the color of the belt. The black belt is commonly the highest belt color used and denotes a degree of competence. It is often associated with a teaching grade though frequently not the highest grade or the "expert" of public perception.
