Bestiary entry

Requirement
Template:Cropped Image
To find the Biding Mantis the player must have spoken to the "Huntmaster" in Phon Coast and defeated Thalassinon, which will trigger the start of the Rare Game quest. This mantis will then appear in the southern portion of the Needlebrake area of the Golmore Jungle, when the game clock is between 30 and 59 minutes.
Battle
The Biding Mantis is a great way to test the party's strength on higher level foes. If the Biding Mantis is lured to other enemies it will cannibalize them, growing in strength. Once at a very high level it can deal 9,999 damage to a character with a single strike.
Biding Mantis is fast and the player should cast Reverse on a character to make every one of the enemy's attacks heal a character. Physical attacks become useless on high levels so magick is the way to go. One can also use Quickenings, but most of the time they kill the enemy in one hit.

Etymology
Mantises is an order of insects that contains over 2,400 species and about 430 genera in 15 families worldwide in temperate and tropical habitats. Most are in the family Mantidae. A common name, often applied to any species in the order, is "praying mantis" due to the typical "prayer-like" posture with folded fore-limbs, although the eggcorn "preying mantis" is sometimes used in reference to their predatory habits. In Europe and other regions, however, the name "praying mantis" refers to only a single species, Mantis religiosa.
