Battle Edit

Like most enemies in the Magitek Research Facility, it has high Defense. When they are alone, they use Program 95 to confuse party members. Since they are always accompanied by Sergeants, it is recommended to use a multi-target magic attacks to take them all out. Thunder spells work since they are weak to Lightning, or else Edgar's Bioblaster/Flash or Sabin's Rising Phoenix, since they deal magic damage and hit all enemies.

Etymology Edit

In Dante's Divine Comedy, Inferno has twelve demons employed in pushing barrators under the surface of boiling pitch. One of them is Malacoda, called Belzecue in English. Unlike other characters that are based on mythical characters, Malacoda was invented by Dante and is not a mythological reference.

The enemy is called Garm in the SNES version. In Norse mythology, Garm is a dog associated with both Hel and Ragnarök, and described as a blood-stained watchdog that guards Hel's gate.
