Early life
Edit
- "(Ramza,) The issue of his father's paramour, a baseborn woman of the Lugria family..."
- —From the game manual of "Final Fantasy Tactics - The war of the Lions for PSP
Barbaneth was originally married to a noblewoman with whom he produced his first children, his sons Dycedarg and Zalbaag. At some point, (whether before or after his wife's death) he had an affair another woman, of the peasant Lugria family, who in time gave birth to Ramza, and later, Alma Beoulve.
Fifty Years' War
Edit
In the outbreak of the Fifty Years' War, Barbaneth carried the Beoulve name with honor, fighting gallantly and loyally serving the royal family. He proved himself to be a fierce warrior, leading the Order of the Northern Sky within the ranks of the Ivalician army against Ordalia. He managed to secure victories where others had perished. It was his ferocity in battle that struck fear in the Ordalian army. After the war, he attained the title "Knight Gallant" for services rendered in the line of duty.
Death
Edit
Not long after the conclusion of the war Barbaneth fell ill and was forced to retire. While on his deathbed, Barbaneth continued to advise his children and to carry on the House Beoulve name with dignity and justice. He whispered his final words to his son, Ramza, and died peacefully shortly afterward.
Truth
Edit

Added by NubecieloIn truth, Barbaneth's illness was not of natural causes, but of the poison, Mossfungus. It is eventually revealed that his oldest son, Dycedarg, plotted the murder. A conversation between him and Loffrey is overheard by Zalbaag who goes to their father's graveside to confirm it.
Zalbaag later returns to avenge Barbaneth's death with assistance from his younger brother, Ramza. However, Dycedarg, having been corrupted by the Zodiac Stone given to him by Loffrey, transforms into Adrammelech and kills Zalbaag instantly - but is later reincarnated as a zombie controlled by the Lucavi to face Ramza in battle. Ramza faces Zalbaag and painstakingly slays him in his zombie state, thus enabling him to destroy the Lucavi demon in the end.
