The Antlion is a minor boss from Final Fantasy IV, found deep inside its Den, where it produces the Sand Pearl while laying its eggs, the only means to cure those infected by Desert Fever. Normally, the Antlion is a benign beast, but because of the influence which is making monsters become more aggressive, the Antlion attacks the party. The Antlion counters any physical attack used in this battle. As such, Rydia should summon Chocobo and Edward should Hide. Cecil should attack physically because he can take the brunt of the counter.

In the DS version, the Antlion's eyes change color from white to red and will counter physical attacks when white and magical attacks when red. Depending on the eye color, you should use the appropriate moves to avoid the counterattacks and have Edward use his Bardsong abilities to aid the party. When the Antlion doesn't counter physical attacks (red eyes), Cecil should use Darkness and when he does counter them (white eyes), have Rydia use Blizzard and have Cecil defend. Eventually this beast should fall, and you will obtain the Sand Pearl needed to heal Rosa in Kaipo.
