|Final Fantasy X-2 Enemy|
- Normal: "A fiend born of pyreflies that have fused with water. Its gelatinous body renders physical attacks useless and its shifting elemental attacks make it a challenging foe."
Oversoul: "A fiend born of pyreflies that have fused with water. Its gelatinous body renders physical attacks useless and it really gunks things up with its elemental magic."
Amorphous Gel is an enemy in Final Fantasy X-2. It has zero magic defense. It starts with an immunity to a random element, and each turn, loses the previous immunity and gains a new one. It has maximum (255) physical defense, but as the lesser of the two Gels, physical attacks by level 99 characters will dispatch it quickly.
The Amorphous Gel appears as an uncommon random encounter in the Macalania Woods from the start of the game. From Chapter 5 the enemy becomes available to fight in Via Infinito, and also becomes unavailable in Macalania Woods. It has a very high chance, approaching 100%, to be spawned in tandem with a Protean Gel on the northwest side of the Calm Lands at the top of the earthen ramp down to an altar, with a character equipped with a Lure Bracer. This is the same altar where the unfinished Celestial Weapon of Tidus, the Caladbolg, was to be found in FFX. During Chapter 5, Amorphous Gels are rare to nonexistent throughout the rest of the Calm Lands.
The fact that these two monsters only appear in tandem in Calm Lands Chapter 5, is unfortunate for those seeking Oversouled Protean Gels, as both the Amorphous and Protean Gels are the same monster type, and when an Oversoul encounter is due at the beginning of an encounter, the lesser Amorphous version will always be the one to Oversoul.
22 Gel enemies must be defeated before the 23rd will Oversoul.
