Akashic Records is a legendary and a nigh indecipherable tome said to contain information on Orience's past, present, and future in Final Fantasy Type-0. It is first mentioned by a dominion legionary in Rokol, who has heard rumors of its existence.

Director Hajime Tabata has explained the records is like a revelation or a prophecy, and includes the summary of Orience's history for every cycle. Though never revealed in-game, one of the Vermilion Peristylium's duties is to maintain the history's darkest record in the Akashic Records, generation by generation.[1] It is thus implied to contain information preserved from previous cycles, and thus predict the coming of the end of the world.

The Final Fantasy Type-0 Kōshiki Settei Shiryōshū Aku no Hishi art book contains an artwork of the tome, but it never appears in-game, though it is presumed to be kept somewhere in Akademeia. The tome has Etro's gate motif in the middle.

Etymology[]

In theosophy and anthroposophy, the Akashic records (a term coined in the late 1800s from akasha, the Sanskrit word for "sky", "space", "luminous", or "æther") are a compendium of thoughts, events, and emotions believed by Theosophists to be encoded in a non-physical plane of existence known as the astral plane. There is no scientific evidence for existence of the Akashic records.
